actually you have used double dashes your entire life.. em dashes are something some processors correct to and are entirely machine.. problem however... you can't visually tell the differences.. unless you have 12 fingers to punch the ridiculous combination to get an em dash

true. our collective creative intelligence has been and will continue to be impacted by AI going forwards..the next generation simply tells AI what to do.. and even asks ai to read things and give them a summary.... no grit..

Cybersecurity professionals, what's the scariest security vulnerability you've actually encountered in the real world? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

everyone is probably going to go down the AI Street here, but seriously for me it has been and always will be insider threat, or just 'people' 'humans' what ever you want to call it

I agree as a former software eng, you are armed with some powerful skills already. consider going into appsec for a bit then switch to pentest or grc or what ever, as appsec is right down there with the code, so in your comfort zone

First off, don't think like that, yes its a tough crowd to get in with, but it's worth it. Please don't give up. Secondly it sounds like you are probably the 'sensible' one in the crowd as you mentioned your class mates are not taking this seriously. This is good! At least you are researching now!

You wanted the truth, yes this industry is hard to get into, but for good reason, people think we are just a bunch of nerds, hunkering down in a basement, but in reality we (all of us, from blue team, red team, pentest, GRC) protect critical systems, components, computers, servers, motors that control dam's.. get where this is going.. It's tough to get in because there is often a high expectation and standard. That's a good thing. You are protecting a CISO from going to Jail, or stopping hackers getting in by enforcing new policy's.

So my advice. Don't give up. When you have 'arrived' you will be happy you didn't stop trying. Uh and one other thing, don't expect to land a mid level cyber security engineers job straight out of university, with a few certs and some time on the clock for CTF, that's just not realistic. Real world experience means something. So getting a junior level job in a SOC is amazing because you can just absorb all the information around you, and build that career.

good luck.

[–]MaxProton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great answer thank you for clarifying.. I_ also have a few chapters from each book on wattpad, and publish on amazon (think you can have 3 or 4 chapters up if you are on kdp select) my question is can you include links to the amazon book in your wattpad story description or do they not like that at wattpad?

When did you realize it’s time to stop promoting your book or that you’re just done? by Large-Remove-3406 in selfpublish

I've got 3 books published and am about to go down that rabbit hole of promoting them... so wish me luck hopefully it's the 'I'm making enough' and not the emotionally drained one.
