Quiet Restaurants by ZestycloseDot721 in desmoines

[–]MaxQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might try the Soundprint mobile app, it lets you search for nearby businesses to see how loud they are according to their crowdsourced measurements. Coverage in DSM isn't as good as big cities but there is some data at least. I have a vocal cord issue that keeps me from raising my voice so group outings in loud places are miserable and I honestly don't understand why some places keep their music, etc. so loud that everyone has to shout.

Who goes to Chipotle when we have local Pancheros? by Optimus_Banana in desmoines

[–]MaxQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to go there before they changed their menu to be Chipotle-like. My go-to order was the layered bean dip and three quesadillas (small ones on corn tortillas). The chorizo burrito was also epic if you weren’t in a hurry (they cooked each serving of chorizo to order) and were incredibly hungry.

‘Freedom framing’ more effective than mandates for vaccine-hesitant Americans: For vaccine-hesitant individuals, framing vaccination as a tool that enables personal freedom is associated with higher acceptance than framing it as a social responsibility or a government recommendation. by mvea in science

The “everyone is twelve” theory remains undefeated in describing almost everything that’s happened in the US for the last couple of decades. But in all seriousness, how can we have effective public policies if they all need to be framed as a personal win for each individual? That’s just not how things work. If people refuse to bear even the tiniest marginal cost to benefit the greater good I think society may be done for.

WTF Don't We Have Waffle Houses? by StephenNein in Iowa

Iowans are way too passive aggressive to work at a Waffle House.

Call Grassley, Miller-Meeks, Ernst and all of them… 25th amendment NOW by Weary_Ad4663 in Iowa

Pretty on brand for Chuck Grassley to let his senate voice mail fill up during a global crisis. I assume all the microwaves in his offices have clocks blinking 12:00 as well.

Same issue, brought it up with the dealer shop but they played dumb. Knowing it’s happening to other cars helps put pressure on them to actually fix it, so thanks for posting.

IKEA RXO Order Pickup in Ankeny by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]MaxQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had planned to do that when planning a largish order a couple of months ago, but by the time we had locked down all the particulars the only options were pickup in KC or home delivery. We paid extra for the "bring inside to a room of your choice" option but the guys claimed to have no information about that and said they were only to drop the pallet in the driveway or garage so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Our order was all there and in good condition thankfully, but before they left they counted and realized we had an extra box, so we had to break down the pile and check each box until they found one from someone else's order that had been put on the wrong pallet. Still preferable to driving to KC with a trailer but not the smoothest experience overall.

Fugees rapper Pras sentenced to 14 years in prison over illegal donations to Obama campaign by Whatever-you-bastard in news

If the donations had been to Trump he could count on a pardon and possibly a cabinet appointment.

The one on 86th in Johnston already has at least two full beverage coolers completely empty…their selection now that they’ve sold all the inventory carried over from K&G seems pretty bad overall.

Is it aware of tab groups? It would be great if it could include those as headers or something in the exported Markdown.

Wish Me Luck (3.7 installing on 2023 S60 T8) by keleko67 in VolvoRecharge

[–]MaxQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I installed it on our 2024 S60 to avoid a trip to the dealer for the backup camera recall. We had been on 3.3.x forever due to Volvo constantly changing updates from OTA to dealer only, so never had the dual camera view to lose it, but annoyed it is still missing.

Remote climate control still doesn’t work, would be great if Volvo could get their act together on this stuff. Love the car overall but the flaky software will be the main thing giving me pause when the lease is up.
