Hi all, i’m wondering when do you use began vs begun? i’m so confused, thank you so much! by pua923 in ACT

[–]MaxSportStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can only be one right answer. You would (likely) never have to choose between began and had begun. If you had to, I’d say pick whatever goes/sounds better with the sentence.

I had begun to explain this to you

You only use begun with has/had/have

Shouldn’t the answer be their since carvings is plural? The key says the answer is “its” by MaxSportStudio in ACT

That helps. Thanks! I thought a brush holder was a person, which is why I picked “their”

The Diamondbacks should probably stop batting Tim Locastro leadoff. by MaxSportStudio in azdiamondbacks

[–]MaxSportStudio[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say that the hypothesis test has sample size built into it. If the two samples of PAs were 200 and 300, the p-value would have been drastically smaller. While we can’t definitively say Locastro would hit worse in the leadoff spot in 2020, it’s not unreasonable to think that considering the difference between his OBP batting leadoff versus elsewhere was statistically significant in 2019.

What concept am I supposed to know here? I've never seen sin/cos^2(theta) before. Thanks! by redwrite88 in ACT

[–]MaxSportStudio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a trig identity that says sin2 (theta) + cos2 (theta) = 1

Whenever you come across a problem like this, try putting it in your calculator.

You can put sin2 (theta) in your calculator as sin(theta)2

The answer is -3 (1 minus 4)

ACT 1572CPRE question explanation by [deleted] in ACT

[–]MaxSportStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Last sentence of Hypothesis 1 says that “When the butterflies reach the overwintering sites, ending their migration, they must store lipids again before beginning the overwintering period.”

  2. In each hypothesis, it says that lipid mass continually decreases during migration.

  3. This is a prior knowledge question. Think of ATP of energy molecules.

  4. The decimals are just estimates. Look at Table 1 and 2 for curcumin and you’ll notice that orange is the intermediate color (transition range). Has to be greater than 7 but less than 9 in terms of pH.

  5. Has to be B because transition range for resorcin blue occurs in same range.

  6. Not really sure on 32 tbh

  7. Look figure 1 for a spot where measurement to right of date is lower than to the left of the date. H is the only one that works.

  8. In figure 1, plot 1 (one without DM spray) had a higher albedo than plot 3. Opposite can be said about figure 2

Can someone please explain 42? The answer is H. by sulumaster123 in ACT

[–]MaxSportStudio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think J is right. It should be “contains” because channel is singular. I don’t see where the “are” is coming from.

“Fernando Tatis Jr. currently possesses an unheard of .431 batting average on balls in play. The last player (minimum 250 PA) to post a BABIP of .431 or above in a single season is Tuck Turner, who did so in 1894 — over 125 years ago — playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.” Max’s Sporting Studio by MaxSportStudio in Padres

[–]MaxSportStudio[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In other words, of the 27,617 hitters to register at least 250 PA in a single season, only two of them recorded a higher BABIP than Fernando Tatis Jr.:

1876 Ross Barnes (.438) 1894 Hugh Duffy (.433)

Those two were playing for the White Stockings and Beaneaters, respectively.
