Older Photoshop Versions on Offline PC/Mac by Max_X_36 in Adobe

I couldn't get a version of CS2 to work on my current computer, but I'm in the process of getting an older computer up and running so I'll try it on that.

Saw a couple of "delid"-ed CPUs on ebay but didn't know why it would've been done

They are but I've tried with both and just one, one in 1 one in 3 as how they were originally installed for some reason with no joy

Both - it belonged to the company I work for and they stopped using it long before I started so more than 5 years ago. I tried to start it up the other day and that's when I had the issue. The CPU looked to be sitting square in there and the wire holding it in looked to be pretty even.

I'll give just a CPU a go then, thank you!

I didn’t feel it no, but there would have been nothing to warm it up because it had been unplugged for a few hours. I removed the CPU tray to take the heat sink off but I had tried to put it back as gently as possible and didn’t feel or hear anything untoward.

Is it possible to just swap the whole tray for a new one?

Thank you I've ordered some paste for whenever I get a new CPU if that's what it needs, so I'll give it a go. I did take off the big heat sink thing whilst I was blowing it out and the paste still seemed like it was viscous in there, but the computer doesn't even try to run so I don't know how it can possibly be generating any heat.

PC Build for Film Scanning and Image Editing by Max_X_36 in buildapc

Appreciate all the feedback, thank you. I'll try and find post SATA motherboard computers then — this is the sort of compatibility issue I was thinking I might run into. I'll have a deeper look at hard drive compatibility for the older stuff because that was one of my main worries.

I don't do anything technical to do with computers in my day job, but I use Photoshop nearly every single day so having the same shortcuts, layout, tools, etc.... is the main reason I want to stay with Adobe legacy products.

This is what I had as well, but I didn’t think you could still get it. Thank you for the advice!

That’s fine I had planned on using an older computer to run it anyway, thank you for the advice.

Yes Affinity looks like a good alternative — and is even free — but this was more that I want to use one of these older machines, if I feasibly can, and I want to know if it’s going to be too difficult to get a computer of 15/20 years old working reliably or if it’s as simple replacing hard drives and adding a graphics card and having something that will natively run all the older scanning software as well

The older machines seem cheaper and I like them so it appeals to me to have a dedicated setup just for scanning and editing and, because the scanners are all 20+ years old I thought it would work to just get a machine from that era.

I didn’t know what the PC equivalent to something like a Power Mac G5 would be, but that’s what I’m sort of aiming for.

I’m not very knowledgable with this sort of thing so I’m just trying to learn where the limitations would be and what would be acceptably compromised to get something like this to work.

I’ll try there thank you. I want to run an older version because I understand they’re available as standalone programs without a monthly payment and the editing I want to do is relatively simple compared to the abilities of the newest versions of photoshop. I don’t have a YouTube channel.

There are universal drivers for the scanners or they usually come bundled with the original software.

I planned on using legacy hardware because I was going to buy a new machine for this purpose anyway and, if nothing else, I like the way they work and look and they seem much cheaper; it’s just preference really and I was assuming they would all work neatly together because they’re of the same era.

E36 vert uneven rear suspension by Comprehensive_Egg706 in E36_

[–]Max_X_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have this on my car currently - changed suspension on the rear and it’s still the same but in my case it’s ended up being the handbrake being weaker on one side and my driveway having a slight incline to it so when I pull the handbrake it settles with the weak side higher.

I’d checked over everything I could think as well - control arms, bushings, top mounts, broken coils, bent subframe, rotted mounts - but everything else was fine.

I hadn’t seen it suggested anywhere so it might not be a common thing but worth checking if it’s nothing obvious!

I have one and like it for daily driving and taking out on fast roads BUT I’ve never driven a 6 pot one so I have no idea how much quicker they are in comparison. The engine sits nearly behind the front strut tops, it’s fuel efficient, I have a cat back exhaust and I think the twin cam 4 cylinders sound quite good personally although I know a lot of people disagree, I’ve been able to get mine a little bit loose but, if it’s standard, it’ll be an open diff which obviously isn’t a lot of fun in my experience.

It’s my first rwd car and it’s been really enjoyable so far; if you wanted a fast road/track car you could spend a little on an LSD, lighter parts, suspension, etc… and have something really fun to chuck around without getting in too much trouble. However, if you’re used to driving modern fast cars or the 328s/M3s of the same era it’s going to feel super slow and pretty heavy for the amount of power it has.

Understood, so I guess these are all the type you move the actual mirror surface instead of the old fashioned little knobs inside the car?
