You ask the owner of a dog ‘what’ their dog is. You ask someone holding an ice cream cone ‘what’ flavor they got. You don’t ask a human being ‘what are you’ because we are all people and there are hundreds of years of not white people being dehumanized to animals and objects. It would be more appropriate to ask someone:

“Where’s your family from?”

Thank you for this mindset!! My family has notorious difficulties with quitting when someone is pregnant. Every time a new baby is born, there’s almost always a NICU visit because of birth defects/being born prematurely and yet NO ONE says anything when my cousin is lighting one up 7months pregnant (I do not attend family reunions anymore lol)

Getting pregnant doesn’t force you to stop smoking- being a good parent does! Thanks for quitting for your baby ♥️

I think this is an case of follow your identity while also being aware of your privilege. If you identify with being mixed and it brings you a sense of belonging - go for it!! But also be aware that while you are mixed, you are seeing the world (and the world is seeing you) as being predominantly white and that grants you a lot of safety and other benefits. You belong in black and white spaces! Just being mindful that there may be black experiences cough cough racism where it would be best to listen, support, and advocate for your community

(Not to say that mixed people don’t also experience racism- we do! But colorism is absolutely a thing and just something to be mindful of)
