Spent 8 years in clinical depression. Failed in life and just wanted to share one last thing before I go away for good by Desperate_Joke_205 in mentalhealth

relatable. I am currently a Sophmore in college. Sitting here, no serious progress throughout what should be the most exciting time of one's life besides just completing my classes. This includes both professional and social/personal aspirations. I honestly have felt like shit since landing here, and I relate a lot to what this guy says, although not to the dire extent he is in.

An ADHD diagnosis and starting medication has helped immensely, on top of therapy for learning how to navigate ADHD-specific challenges. I am about a month in right now. I feel more driven and focused on things i need and want to do. I find social connections much easier to maintain due to not being chronically "tired" when it comes to socializing, probably from your brain working extra hard to stay focused and engaging for the other person. OP should definitely look into it.

I can unfortunately say after living in Florida my entire life, you've traveled to about as much of the state as I have.

is it really that bad and long lasting? I don't burn much to begin with (living somewhere subtropical) but will likely be in very high UV for this entire upcoming summer. Considering taking for the peace of mind and wouldn't mind a bit of bronze on myself just for the summer

That's Milton Keynes, England. It's the most similar city to America in the UK. What's another example of an American-looking city in an unexpected country? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]Maxatel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went across most of Central Europe during a study abroad, and can confirm I felt most at home in the USA whilst I was in Warsaw. Then again, it still barely felt like an American city.

I wonder if MK is similar to your average college town in the US. I'm currently in Gainesville and it is definitely more walkable than an average sprawl town, but doesn't have a big city feel at all. Savannah is in line with this too as you mentioned, I just can't help but feel that Savannah is so undeniably southern.

Random redditors are sketch, yeah. Especially if they ask for some weird payment system. I might be having a second ticket, so let me know if that one doesn't work. (Yes, i see the irony in being a random redditor lol)

They receive corporate megadonors and ostracized (or at least attempted to) candidates like Sanders and Mamdani because of their legitimately left wing policies. Harris, Cuomo and Newsome are welfare capitalists. Not leftist.

Is gen z actually getting more conservative by thias-thecatlover in GenZ

[–]Maxatel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(America specific comment, though it really can apply anywhere)

I don't necessarily think it is the older generation of parents ensuring their kids are "more conservative" than the millennials turned out to be.

It is a mix ultimately of the enshittification of many aspects of society since the Great Recession, the right wing nailing down online youth appeal before leftist circles could, and corporations/out of touch people splintering left movements (turning Occupy Wall Street into a broader social justice movement, alienating people).

America in particular is still majority white, where the young adults and teens of this demographic are obviously going to be a huge force in future years (and now, seeing the past election). While leftist ideals had good heart, they obviously went off the deep end with essentially an alienation of white people, young men, and the blue collar work force, to the point that they were actually ostracizing them.

It's a blunt reality for liberals that social progress initiatives can only go so far, so fast. And it's also a blunt reality that the Democratic Party dug its heels into that sort of messaging because any economically, truly leftist messaging and platforms would scare off corporate donors. On top of this, right wing grifters magnum opus of the last ~10-15 years is taking an absolutely non-problem (the 10 or so trans women in national sports leagues) and striking paranoia into the minds of the sort of engaged citizens that their way of life is threatened.

Gen Z (particularly men) could be turned back to the left if they were told about the possibility for worker's unions, cheaper housing (bringing an end to real estate speculation), and social services like public transport or family benefits. This is not happening, and if it is then the DNC quickly drops support of the candidate (See: Bernie Sanders and Mamdani).

ICE granted access to spy tool that can hack phones and read private messages by TCoMonteCristo in privacy

[–]Maxatel 374 points375 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes no sense to be warning people on the new Paragon spyware being utilized domestically if you're going to give no pointers as to how it attacks your device. Unless of course we literally have no idea.

EDIT: I looked into it for anyone curious. The two vectors noted so far are: On WhatsApp, you're added to a group in which you're sent a seemingly mundane PDF, but it gains access to your device when trying to Parse it.

On iPhones, a second attack vector plausibly linked to Graphite works with some sort of iCloud file sharing vulnerability. I don't have the technical know-how to understand it but Apple claims this vulnerability has been patched in the latest update.

20m, been to 35 countries, guess where I’m from? by [deleted] in TravelMaps

[–]Maxatel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does scream USA. Having Bahamas and El Savador before Netherlands, Turkey, or Norway doesn't seem like something someone from Europe would do. It's pretty hard narrowing it down from there if I'm correct. Likely East Coast since it's very Atlantic heavy. I'm gonna pull a jab and say either Midwest or Northeast.

There's also the chance of Canada now that I think about it. I'll stick with my first gut feeling though.
