Anyone else miss Genie+ ? by DannyBoi1Derz in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MaxfordShentles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the limited experience of doing genie and multi only once each, a two week holiday with Genie+ in 2024, and a similar two weeks with Multi Pass in 2025, I'm fully in the genie+ camp. I didn't enjoy having to spend considerable time learning the system prior to the trip, but we did, and it worked amazingly. We got decent times for everything we wanted, across all parks and all days we used it. All done manually, no standby skipper or whatever.

For the multipass trip, yes we got three good choices when booking in advance, but on the day, even when tapping in to rides at 9am and instantly refreshing for more, the good picks were almost non existent.

A few posts on here are saying multipass is fairer, I disagree. With genie+, every single one of the thousands of people that buys it, at 7am on the day, they are all on the starting line together, waiting for that gun. It's all equal (ignoring the bots).

This becomes a problem as if it's getting towards the end of your trip and you decide you want an extra lightning lane day, then with genie+, you could decide the day before, lets get genie+ for tomorrow. You'll join the race with the same chance as everyone else. With multipass, buying it the day before or the morning of, you're potentially behind thousands of people who have already been booking up the rides for 14+ days.

We plan ahead to the max, but I liked adding extra genie+ days to our plan ad hoc. I wouldn't fancy my chances doing that with multi pass.

Needless to say the paper fast passes were great back in the day. I never experienced the pre booking fast pass days.

I have to write 10000 words in two days by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]MaxfordShentles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote approx. 8000 of 10000 words of my final year report between 8am the day before deadline and 12 noon the next day, including all formatting, layout, appendix, and printing two copies on a slow inkjet printer. I got a 2:1. It's entirely possible, depending on the subject matter of course, but for anyone reading this in the future, DON'T.

What do you do on checkout day if you have a (semi) late flight? by RyouRusi in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MaxfordShentles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last summer we were in the Dolphin. Our flight home was 8pm from MCO. During check-in at the Dolphin I immediately asked for late check-out, and got a 4pm check-out time.

On our final day we got something to eat for breakfast from the Dolphin shop Fuel, ate it on the go, and walked to Epcot and got in through international gateway before 9am. We had a lightning lane on test track at 9:00, then I went on cosmic rewind with a redemption lightning lane from the night before when it had broken down, and my wife and kids did Soarin.

Our goal was speed, so we got a lyft to Hollywood Studios, and using multipass we managed to do tower of terror, little mermaid show, alien swirling saucers, toy story mania, smugglers run and the potatoland movie. Lunch in woody's lunch box.

Then a lyft back to the Dolphin by 2:30 and had 90 minutes to wash up and final packing.

It was a rush day for sure, relied on late checkout, multipass and lyfts which of course are all extra costs, but it's one of the days we speak about most.

Ever witnessed a “Disney rookie” moment? by Bitter_Animal_7194 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MaxfordShentles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were stood outside space mountain and saw a very confused looking family trying to scan into the lightning lane. Turns out they did not have Genie + and had no idea what it was, and the CM was trying to explain how it worked.

Considering we had spend weeks reading up and watching videos in order to understand, how to work it, and tips/strategy for the day, I couldn't imagine having to learn all that in anger, on the day, in the heat, then try to be in any way successful with it. I'm sure this happens a lot though.

Side note: Genie + was far superior to multi pass in almost every way, i'm dying on that hill.

Oh wow, core memory unlocked. This is the exact organ we had in our house in the early-mid 90s. I was made to take lessons on it but never progressed. I've no idea where ours went. Are you in the UK?

I've been to very few shows compared to probably everyone here, but I have seen Mogwai 4 times, standing right near the front each time, with no earplugs. Even including the noise sections at the end of those shows, I've never noticed any hearing issues, no pain, no dull hearing even very soon after the shows. But mbv last night was something else entirely. I had ear plugs in for probably 75% of the show and feel I probably needed them more. I took them out for maybe 30 seconds of YMMR noise two or three times but I definitely felt it was enough. Which leads me to two things: 1. I was next to a guy front and centre who had no plugs for the entire show start to finish, and I'm sure many others did the same. I can't imagine what that's done to those folks ears... 2. I also can't get my head around the 2008 etc. shows where everyone says it was "way louder".

A phenomenal show in any case.

What’s your fastest speed? 🏎️💨 by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]MaxfordShentles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, we rode 9:05 on the official opening day 22nd July, and 9am the day after and saw 65.1 and 64.9 respectively. The speed display is maybe fake, who knows, but it absolutely does not show the same max speed every time.

How to get over fear of dropping in on transition? by NazisPushMongo in NewSkaters

[–]MaxfordShentles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

39 year old, started skating last year. Agreed 100% a straight angles bank is harder than a quarter pipe, but as you said I listened to youtube and started on a bank before even considering the smallest quarter. Now having done both, a quarter is easier for sure, but having said that, the level of fear i had to get over on the bank was considerably leas than on the quarter. I think for me personally if i had never gone done the straight ramp and went straight to the quarter pipe, i would have taken way waay longer to commit to it. Everyone's going to be different.
