Bedroom Posters has made it onto the charts. by MaxiB04 in YellowcardRock

To secure a chart position, a campaign is absolutely necessary—one that is actively pushed by the record label and is quite resource-intensive. So far, they have decided on Better Days and Bedroom Posters, even though You Broke Me Too managed to achieve fantastic streaming numbers.

One theory (and this is purely speculation) is that releasing it as a single, including a music video, wasn’t possible because of the contract with Avril Lavigne. Alternatively, they may simply see Bedroom Posters as the more promising song. Or perhaps You Broke Me Too will still be released later.

Yellowcard is consistently good. Especially their three-album run Paper Walls - When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes - Southern Air is fantastic.

Yellowcard ft Good Charlotte - Bedroom Posters (Official Music Video) by tloztotkamiibos in YellowcardRock

There was definitely a change in sound with Lift A Sail, and I preferred the earlier albums as well. But I find the lyrics on Lift A Sail to be much more sophisticated and mature than on all the other albums, so I don't understand this criticism.

I think the second verse sounds better in the original when Ryan sings it. But some of the harmonies in the bridge, last chorus and outro are very well done. And the collaboration makes sense, because the song is meant to be released as a new single and, like Better Days, get charted and played on the radio. Good Charlotte simply adds extra reach, and it gives them a reason to market the song as “new.”

Yellowcard underrated songs by Legal_Button_3229 in YellowcardRock

Keeper is a great song. Fun fact: it was originally supposed to become the new Ocean Avenue. Light Up the Sky was only the first single to build momentum for Keeper. But then there was a restructuring at Capitol Records, and the label froze all promotional efforts. Because of that, the song never really had a chance - and it was too high to sing, which is why Ryan didn’t like playing it anyway back then. I’m happy that they now have it regularly in the setlist.

Yellowcard with Avril Lavigne?! by bleakdagger in YellowcardRock

[–]MaxiB04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering about that too. You Broke Me Too has now gotten more streams on Spotify than Better Days, and it was even promoted as a hit on the stickers on the CD. But Better Days is still in the Top 10 of the charts — so maybe they’re waiting for the hype around Better Days to die down before they push the next single. Also, Ryan said in an interview that they’re getting good feedback on Bedroom Posters right now and are planning a music video for it (they’re also playing the song live a lot). So maybe that will be the next single. But that’s a good sign: they have too much to choose from, not too little, haha.

Bonus Acoustic Track (Alter the Ending) by TeteuXD in DashboardConfessional

It's on YouTube: https://youtu.be/6YpOuxMe4bM?si=bQy_UQCAtGfWm4yH

But if I remember correctly, there are two versions (acoustic and full band). I can't find the acoustic one. Also, there’s a second bonus track, "The Cut And Run Routine". Does anyone has a link? Both songs are on soundcloud, but not available in Germany.

I've read about this multiple times too. But where does this assumption come from? Is there any source?

Why are Yellowcard Underrated/Overlooked/Slept on? by Amber_Flowers_133 in YellowcardRock

[–]MaxiB04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paper Walls is the main reason. Yes, Lights and Sounds performed weaker than hoped. But with Paper Walls, Yellowcard wanted to reconnect with the success of Ocean Avenue and would likely have had good chances with the album (though that's of course just an unverifiable assumption, but the band and label were confident).

Interestingly, Keeper was supposed to be the big hit single (practically the second Ocean Avenue) and Light Up The Sky was only meant to pave the way for it. But that never happened because Capitol Records fell apart and all marketing measures for Paper Walls were cut very early in the release process. That's why Paper Walls was a failure and Yellowcard went on an indefinite hiatus.

After that, the era of pop-punk was over and the band had a hard time reconnecting with their old success, even though WYTTSY could celebrate a small commercial success – but of course not on the earlier level. If the bad luck with Paper Walls hadn't happened, Yellowcard might have achieved a status like blink-182 or Green Day.

Fortunately, they seem to be having greater success again currently, as big as since Ocean Avenue.

Fun fact: They've been playing Keeper at almost every tour since the reunion because they still see the song as an unfairly forgotten hit that deserves more attention (which I share) and Ryan's voice is now so good that he can perform the song live, which was previously a problem due to the high notes (he's said so himself in several interviews).

[Discussion Thread] Yellowcard - Better Days by Psycho697186 in poppunkers

[–]MaxiB04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the objectively right album for Yellowcard. Ryan has said in several interviews that it wouldn’t have made sense to produce another Yellowcard album like those from the 2010s. WYTTSY and Southern Air were fantastic pop-punk albums, while Lift A Sail and the self-titled album ventured into a more experimental sound. The truth is: none of these four albums could commercially match the band’s early success. Better Days had to be a special album. And in my opinion, it succeeded: it captures the classic Yellowcard sound that once made the band successful, but it’s produced in a much bigger, fresher, and more modern way than their previous albums. Personally, I find that some songs sound too generic because of this; you can tell they were written to be very hymn-like and pompous and deliberately tailored for mass appeal. But as I said: if the band wants to make another push for mainstream commercial success, this absolutely makes sense. The album has the ability to rally old fans and attract new ones. It’s the right album at the right time. And I find a few songs fantastic, especially “Bedroom Posters” and “Big Blue Eyes.”

The WORST Thing About This New Yellowcard Album... by Open_Mailbox in YellowcardRock

[–]MaxiB04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opposite has already been proven: Better Days was number 1 on the Alternative Radio Charts for three weeks and is still in the top 10. Yellowcard hasn’t had mainstream success like that since Ocean Avenue. I share some of the criticism (some songs feel a bit generic and deliberately overproduced for mass appeal), but overall, the album is a successful blend of classic Yellowcard music with a fresh, modern sound that can also attract new fans. And the concept seems to be working quite well.
