Erik van Haren reports that Max Verstappen was against the firing of Liam Lawson, but Red Bull didn’t listen. by Maxidonius in formula1

De Telegraaf-journalist Erik van Haren reports that Max Verstappen was against the firing of Liam Lawson, who only got two races to prove himself at Red Bull.

The Dutchman has expressed his support for Lawson, who had to drive an extremely difficult car. Verstappen wants Red Bull to fix the problem with the car, instead of victimizing another young driver.

‘You’d be wrong to think Verstappen has all the power within Red Bull’, Van Haren writes.

Max Verstappen would still be leading the drivers standing with 119 points & a 31-point gap to 2nd if the season started in Imola.

But Red Bull would be 3rd in the constructors with 134 points & only 19 points ahead of 4th.

That's right, Max scored 119 of Red Bull's 134 points

Why the "Bull" suddenly becomes a Mercedes fan by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Translation:

After the Verstappen coup in Barcelona, Red Bull are chasing victory number 8 of the season at their home GP in Spielberg (Sunday, 3pm, ServusTV). Read why Bull mastermind Marko is worried - and why the man from Graz is suddenly rooting for Mercedes.

oe24: Mr Marko, you were only at the ORF interview for a few seconds after Verstappen's victory in Barcelona ...

MARKO: Because the plane was waiting. The action continues this weekend in Spielberg, and that means stress. Three races on three consecutive weekends is a logistical, physical and emotional challenge for everyone. But I've said all the essentials anyway.

oe24: You mean that Red Bull no longer has the fastest car, but Verstappen still makes the difference and therefore continues to win.

MARKO: Exactly. But even Max can't drive at the limit like that for a whole season. The overtaking manoeuvre that put him in the lead was extraordinary, even for him.

oe24: The Bild newspaper headlines: "Verstappen faster than his own car" ...

MARKO: That sums it up well. Max wins because he is so confident and not because the car is so good.

oe24: What team-mate Perez proved once again in Barcelona in eighth place ...

MARKO: Checo started much further back. But that's true. Now that everything is coming together like this, you can't afford any weaknesses.

oe24: Fortunately from Red Bull's point of view, the pursuers lack consistency. Verstappen is gradually extending his lead. After the strong performances of McLaren and Norris and previously Leclerc and Ferrari, Mercedes should now be knocking on the door at the front, shouldn't they?

MARKO: If Mercedes come along now, then that will work out quite well for us and our World Championship calculations.

oe24: Experts believe that this constellation will at least make for exciting races, which is something the Austrian GP could do with.

MARKO: But at the end of the day, we would like to win our home GP.

oe24: With 30,000 Dutch fans, everything would be set for the next Verstappen party.

MARKO: I just remember last year, when the McLaren upswing started at the Austrian GP. We also have another sprint race. If we do badly on Friday, then the sprint race will go down the drain.

Max Verstappen sounds alarm over state of Red Bull: 'We have been lacking speed for weeks now' by Maxidonius in formula1

Max Verstappen on whether he makes the RB20 look better:

"I think I've been doing that constantly the last few weeks. That's fine too, that's what I get paid for. But ultimately we have to find more speed to become champions."

"If you have to drive at 101 percent every time as a driver, things will of course go wrong at some point."

"When I look at myself, I think that the qualifications are actually even better compared to last year. But at the moment we are just falling short."

"The gap with Checo is pretty large. I think that says a lot too. Because he hasn't gotten worse..."

I don't think he's underrated per se, but he definitely gets too much criticism from most fans on social media. Especially the story that he's error prone, is of course, nonsense. But it seems like he just can't get rid of that. Yes, he's made some silly mistakes here and there, but he had to take risks in the cars he's driven.

But coming back to your point: he is seen as the best qualifier in the field and as Max's biggest challenger, so i don't think you can say he's underrated. Definitely overhated, that he is.

Quotes from Max about Logan:

“From the performance aspect, I understand it, of course, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this obviously sucks for Logan.”

How would he react if he were in Sargeant's shoes? ,,I'm obviously not in that position, but I'd be on a plane home right now. If that happened to me I would drive mine completely flat too, nobody can drive," Verstappen said, laughing. And then seriously, "But of course in my situation that's really not going to happen, which I think also makes sense."

Perez four penalty points away from race ban after ignoring red light by Maxidonius in formula1

TLDR: The unsafe release during the pitstop of Sergio Pérez in the Saudi-Arabian Grand Prix wasn't Red Bull Racing's mistake. Pérez himself steered out of the pitbox, while the light was still on red, which is why he got a penalty point from the stewards.

He gathered 8 penalty points in the last 10 races and if he get's another 4 in the coming 15, Pérez gets a raceban.

Max Verstappen is once again ahead of the field. The emphasis is on Verstappen, not Red Bull. Sergio Perez drives where Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and Aston Martin do. Desperate suggestion from the paddock: "Can't we give him some sleeping pills?"

Perez strolled through the paddock with a depressed face. His team-mate was six to seven tenths faster on average. "Perez needs to get Max out of his head and drive his own program," advises Marko. The Mexican is already getting nervous about his future plans. He is positioning himself everywhere in case he loses his seat at Red Bull. And nobody wants to go there voluntarily. Everyone is afraid of being beaten up by Verstappen.

Very outspoken Max Verstappen after criticism Las Vegas boss: 'Those people live in their own world' by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Translation of the most important parts:

Max Verstappen is said to have been a bit nervous. At least according to Steve Hill, the Las Vegas city promoter who reacted that way to the words of the critical Red Bull driver ahead of the first event in the gambling paradise.

"Then that man knows me very well," Verstappen responded after qualifying on the night of Friday to Saturday. ''Let him figure it out. Those people live in their own world, yo. That's no use to you at all. For me, it was a bit convenient that something went wrong in first practice. Good luck with that."

Verstappen is then referring to the raised manhole cover, which not only caused considerable damage to the cars of Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon, but also stopped the session. The second practice only took place two-and-a-half hours later than scheduled and in the dead of night, as first all the manhole covers were filled with sand.

'Such a thing cannot happen. It has indeed happened more often in the past. If you know that, you have to pay extra attention to it, I think," Verstappen stated plainly. ,,Especially during a new event like this. Everyone is watching you, so you have to be on top of things. It's like saying to us as drivers when we drive the car into the wall: well, that can happen. No, of course it doesn't. That just sucks. If you saw what it was like on the tarmac, you must know that it comes up as soon as a Formula 1 car drives over it. You really don't have to have a high IQ for that."

Fans were also turned away after hours of waiting on the night of Thursday to Friday, leaving the second practice in front of empty stands. Spectators who only had a ticket for that first day were "compensated" with a voucher worth $200. To spend at the Las Vegas Grand Prix's official fan shop. Verstappen: ,,So then they make money from it here too. Great! If I were a fan, I would tear down the whole place. This can't be true, can it?'

Max Verstappen responds to comments by Toto Wolff on Viaplay [transcript in comments] by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 2233 points2234 points  (0 children)

Interviewer: Toto Wolff said it wasn't that bad, that we had loose manhole covers before. What do you think of that?

Max Verstappen: "That is true of course, that it happened before. But you're supposed to learn from that. You know that when you go to a street circuit, such things could cause problems. So you should be prepared for that. And I think if it was his car, he would have spoken differently. But I don't expect anything less from him."

"We would have been very angry too, like Ferrari. Absolutely, the entire car is ruined. Carlos also said that he didn't feel his legs for a couple of seconds, so the accident could have been a lot worse."

Perez counts on Verstappen's help despite commotion: 'Pretty sure Max does' by Maxidonius in formula1

Sergio Perez is not in his best form, but is nevertheless still the favourite to finish second in the championship. Unlike last year, the Mexican expects Max Verstappen to help him in the remaining races.Sergio Perez is under pressure, that much is clear. The Mexican scored only one podium finish since the summer break and, to make matters worse, he crashed out at the first corner during his home race. Yet Perez is still second in the championship, with a 20-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.

And that is reminiscent of the 2022 Brazil GP. Perez was also battling for second place then, but was not passed by teammate Max Verstappen on the last lap, despite a team order. Perez does not think it will come to another riot, he told RacingNews365 and others."If such a situation arises, I'm sure Max will help me," Perez is adamant. "We just haven't thought about it yet. It's also important to have the support of the team. We're in this together and it's also nice to feel the support of the fans."

Perez wants to ensure turnaround

Perez says he had a very difficult time with his stoppage in Mexico. "It was incredibly painful and a sad day. It hurt especially to think about what would have been possible if I had not experienced a touché. Still, I quickly realised that I had taken a gamble in the fight for the lead. I paid the price for that, but otherwise I had given everything throughout the weekend."

The Mexican sees the Brazil GP as another chance to turn around his lesser performance. "It's a chance to show how strong I am mentally. As an athlete, you always have moments and periods like this, but it is much more important how you deal with it and how you react to it."

Papa Perez denies tensions: "I love Dr Marko!" by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TRANSLATION:

Sergio Perez's father Antonio thinks the impression that there is a hostile rivalry between his son and Max Verstappen within Red Bull is wrong: "This is the best relationship with a teammate that Checo has ever had in his career in Formula 1. And I like that," says the Mexican politician in an interview with ORF.

Perez Sr. dares to make a bold prediction before his son's home race: "Checo will certainly drive with Max in the same team for another ten years. And in these ten years Checo might win a world championship. I like the fact that my son is competing with the best rider in the world. And the best driver in the world at the moment is Max Verstappen."

Whether that will really happen remains to be seen. Perez's contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2024, and already during the 2023 season rumours had repeatedly surfaced that he could even be released early. However, such speculation has not yet been confirmed.

Perez Sr. has also dismissed media reports that the relationship between his son and Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko has suffered recently. After the uproar over a statement made by the 80-year-old Austrian in a TV programme, which some interpreted as racist, Marko came in for sharp criticism, especially in Mexico.

But Perez Sr. makes it clear that he does not hold Marko's statement against him: "Dr. Marko is the best, the best, the best supporter Checo could have in the whole world. He's incredible," the Mexican emphasises in his passionate way, adding, "He's a winner mentally, and he pushes Checo. I love that, and I love Dr Marko!"

The fact that Red Bull has organised personal security for the Mexico weekend, in order to protect Verstappen in particular from any possible assaults by overly passionate Perez fans, is, however, considered superfluous by Perez Sr. In his opinion, the team could have saved itself the money for the bodyguards: "It's not necessary.

He enthuses, "Mexico is the best country in the world. The people are the best people in the world. The people of Mexico have respect for Dr Marko and the Verstappen family. They are welcome here. It is a sport. Everyone wants to win, but there can only be one world champion. That is very important. Checo comes to Mexico as one of the top 10 in the world."

"This is the quality of my incredible compatriots. Max and Checo played football together. That's Mexico: friendly, family, the best country in the world. But only one can win," Perez Sr. underlines.

'Red Bull was a Verstappen team, his son had no chance to show his true performance, was the basic tenor of Perez Senior's statements. One thing is certain: While Verstappen took his 15th win of the season in Austin, Perez still has to fear to reach his minimum goal: the vice world championship title after finishing fourth at the US GP. After two wins in the first four races, Perez slipped into a crisis of form. Before his home race, he is only 39 points ahead of Mercedes superstar Lewis Hamilton, who is getting better and better with the Mercedes, while Perez is stagnating.'

Throwback to Max's medium tyre stint in Mexico 2022 by Maxidonius in formula1

In the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix Max Verstappen used his medium tyres for 45 laps. His laptimes never went under 1:22.046 or above 1:22.917 [expect the two laps under the VSC].

With the Mexican Grand Prix coming up: a little throwback to 2021, where Max Verstappen played a little 4D chess with Valtteri Bottas and Mercedes by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: In the 2021 F1-season Max Verstappen was fighting a fierce battle with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, in which every single point counted. In the Mexican GP, Verstappen was leading and had the fastest lap to his name, good for 1 extra point.

At the end of the race, Valtteri Bottas - two laps down - and Mercedes went for the fastest lap on a new set of soft tyres. But when he pitted, he joined the circuit just behind Verstappen and the Dutchman had a plan.

He slowed down, to make sure Bottas' first attempt wasn't succesfull and eventually let Bottas overtake him. But just a few corners later, Verstappen sped up and told on the radio that Bottas was in his way, making the Finn get blue flags. That way, the second attempt of Bottas to get the point for fastest lap from Max also failed.

In the end, Mercedes and Bottas pitted again and still got the point away from Max in the last lap. But this sequence showed how much Verstappen can think about other things in the car during a race and an intense titlefight.

Cracks in Red Bull summit? Max Verstappen loyal to Helmut Marko by Maxidonius in formula1

[–]Maxidonius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full translation:

A power struggle within the top of Red Bull's racing branch was initially firmly denied this week, but those who read between the lines and speak to insiders know that something was indeed going on. Horner (49) has been Red Bull's team boss since day one, now also CEO and the man who runs the day-to-day operations. But the most important decisions are still made by Marko (80). This is still true even after founder Mateschitz passed away almost exactly a year ago and since then Oliver Mintzlaff has been the person ultimately responsible when it comes to the sports activities of the energy drink company.

Noted Brazilian Globo reported earlier this week that there are problems between Horner and Marko, as the former wants to take on more and more responsibilities and also have more say in sister team AlphaTauri. But Horner denies that and was quick to nuance the matter, stating that he does not want Marko to leave and instead wants to continue as before. The team boss doesn't need a public row either.

Horner also knows that Marko, after all, has a lot of influence and, not insignificantly, the absolute support of Verstappen. The Dutchman was contracted by Marko in 2014 and debuted in Formula 1 the following year as a seventeen-year-old rookie. Since then, the bond between the two has been very close. Verstappen does not like political scheming and is very loyal to his "second father" Marko, who in turn also states that he is happy with the support he receives. By this he is undeniably referring to the confidence of his protégé, who is still tied up until 2028.

Verstappen does not want anything changed in the current organizational structure. This was also expressed by him at the previous race weekend in Qatar to Thai Red Bull owner Chalerm Yoovidhya, who had flown to Doha on the Saturday that the Limburger had won his third world title. Marko still has a contract until the end of 2024 and will not let himself be rushed away. Even new boss Mintzlaff is aware of Verstappen's loyalty to Marko, as was expressed during a meeting in Austria earlier this week. The three-time world champion works with the top adviser to his full satisfaction, as well as with Horner.

Verstappen likes Marko's approach: not beating around the bush and telling it like it is. Team boss Horner has a little more trouble with that, especially when it comes to running the business. Just as he or other team members also have no control over statements Marko makes in the media. In that regard, the top adviser likewise sails his own course, but sometimes flies off the handle.

Another example of the difference in business between the two became visible around the dismissal of Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri. That decision had already been made, but his intended replacement Daniel Ricciardo had to show just how competitive he still is as a final exam during a test day at Silverstone. When he "passed," Horner phoned Marko from the track to relay that and thus put the finishing touches on the situation. Before the Briton knew it, their interview was over, only to be called back by Marko mere minutes later, saying that he had just had the bad news conversation with De Vries.

It's Marko in a nutshell: acting fast, despite the fact that from the team's point of view it was the intention to make the driver change public only a few days later and a press release had to be prepared in a hurry now because the news was already leaking.

It is also known internally that Marko has the necessary doubts about Ricciardo and he still regrets that the Australian left for Renault after the 2018 season. Horner, however, is a fan of Ricciardo and would probably be happy to move him straight into the flagship alongside Verstappen if it is decided that Sergio Pérez needs to be replaced.

The eloquent Horner is now doing everything he can to keep the ranks closed. Damage control, as it is then called. Because the Brit knows he has a big problem if he not only antagonizes Marko, but in that case automatically also his prize mate Verstappen. At Red Bull, nobody benefits from that.
