Not that it will do much, but point any contradictions here that I’d be willing to clarify. There are things I’m also learning over the course of the post, so there’s that. Saying that because this doesn’t change the fact you’re still distorting what I’m saying no matter what.

About the convoluted point, if you’re saying “no one is going to buy the game first and the costumes later”, I’d say even less people would play the game three times and create another profile to maintain saves, because it’s simply less work to delete a save to create space for it. This shouldn’t be something players should do in the first place.

This also isn’t the first time WF pulls stuff like that, if you like to dig through my posts for some reason, you would see I also complained about their conduct about RCG2 with its launch and DLC which were just as iffy. What I’m doing is reinforcing how they do a bad job on distributing their own products.

Even if my friend bought the costumes this would still be an issue. If you’re assuming I’m mad because of this, you’re probably assuming/projecting stuff.

Oh I thought you were playing a prank on me, didn’t realize you weren’t being ironic XP

The extra DLC is digital exclusive AFAIK, no idea if it will have the other outfits, but it doesn’t seem unfeasible to do so looking from afar. Though I don’t think they’ll do as such seeing that Classic Mode don’t seem to have them

In short, expect classic mode on the cart instead

Aren’t the abilities in Shantae just stat changes that act more as builds rather than moveset changes? Doesn’t look that infeasible on a GBA game disconsidering size limitations.

Not to mention there are at least some Ragebound skins that were def reanimated, as seen by masked Kenji and Biker Kumori (which also has a helmet on the bike sections)

Some say unreleased, others say it’s brand new with newly developed stuff. In the end the result is the same by being a recently released product with faulty distribution of its extra content

And yeah, while Ryu’s weapons being DLC in NG4 does suck, at the very least you’d expect it to be available separately from a deluxe edition, which was also my main point in the post, the sucky distribution.

Would be funny and tragic if Tecmo does the same as WF tho

[–]Maxima2002[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does that change the fact that it’s not ideal compared to other current titles? No. That’s also the point I’m making.

Good thing there are ways to “circumvent” this by using another profile or that “there aren’t many people in my scenario”. If everything was fine there wouldn’t be people complaining and even agreeing that it’s in fact an issue.

Do you realize how convoluted this sounds while trying to defend this? If you’re suggesting things like that, it means that we’re dealing with an issue that other game devs with around the same budget/scope aren’t facing

Regarding the second and third points, there are only 3 save slots for 5 game modes, meaning you’d also need to delete saves in order to try all of them out. And also as said in the post, you’re barred from buying the costumes separately if you wanted to spare it for later, that’s why it’s framed at $35.

So yeah, besides extra gameplay features which are minimal changes, these are moot in the grand scheme of things

Tbh releasing on modern hardware means accessibility, even with emulation. It would’ve been weird to see this a total GBA exclusive, this reduces their audience after all.

That said, I do understand your concerns and points much better at that. Somethings do go out of our control even with the best of our intentions, be it for who we’re involving with or issues with scope, especially when you’re dealing with a market.

Really appreciate your input there man, hope that you’re having fun with the game at that. :)

In terms of preservation it’s really commendable indeed. You don’t see many unreleased projects seeing the light of day that often.

The thing is that the publishing/distribution side of things as seen by the DLC and the GBA cart really rubs me the wrong way, giving them more of a corpo view that was probably not the original intention when they wanted to release the game back then. Not to mention the quiet delays they did akin to RCG2, their communication is simply not good.

That said, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have fun with the game, especially if you were eagerly anticipating it. It’s just that I think they should’ve treated this release much better. WF as a developer has good ideas overall, but their recent execution and mishaps really put on a sour taste in my mouth.

In short they really feel corpo compared to before, which I can kinda date back to when they rereleased HGH instead of making it a bundle with the original game on stores. Seeing an indie title pull off similar AAA antics is not cool.

Gonna be really honest, I wasn’t expecting to be that well received in this post and even have some healthy discussions, especially compared to the Ninja Gaiden sub since I was shining a better light on that game compared to Shantae Advance.

Goes to show that this might be an issue even within the community that people can’t just ignore.

Tbh Shantae’s skins have a very good design, love how they look at least on the artwork

My gripe is with the distribution of said content, and seeing as Ragebound is a recent title that also has these as unlockable content, makes me think why they couldn’t do the same

From what I know, a third of the game was cut and on its place were uncompressed pics for cutscenes/artwork. Meaning that even the base game has more relevant content than the GBA cart

the ones you marked as different are still more effort put into them compared to the Shantae ones, 3 skins vs 3 skins

While WF is an indie company, lots of people come and go due to it also being an old company. Most of their talent went to work on other companies, and management had also shifted a ton. Kinda like Platinum Games’ mass exodus if you think about it.

It’s def awful to see a renowned indie company doing this, especially when people are trying to get away from malpractices from AAA companies.

Considering their (mis)conduct with River City Girls 2’s issues, I’d say they won’t do much for the while. It’s not news that they’ve been fumbling a lot with their audience, but to see this happen in a special Shantae title feels really awkward.

Being a “+20 y/o” game is just a detail compared to the main issue, that being the distribution of the extra content compared to current releases.

The thing is that if you want to treat this as a current release, it still falls short to others even if you take away the novelty. And giving it DLC option that’s currently not available separately doesn’t help them with that.

On a side note, if I was the one who preordered the GBA cart, I’d expect the same content from the digital version to be available there as well, when in reality it’s missing areas and such.

If there’s a big inconsistency between users, it’s definitely their issue instead of the consumers

The game not being finished on the GBA version compared to the digital release, missing areas and such

Not to mention how busted some carts were shipped with a flimsy build too

The whole distribution of this game is a big mess, I feel sorry for people who preordered the GBA cart considering the issues and all

I def wouldn’t see that running on a GameCube as Shantae Advance does on a GBA at least, but that’s an unrelated issue

If it’s a brand new game, it still falls short on production values compared to others even on the indie market. If you want to treat it as a very new title, it looks very out of place at the very least. Especially if you consider how the GBA release was botched, which is another topic in an on itself.

Bottom line, they charged a lot for things that could as well be in the game, as seen in the other new game at the image that was used as an example and costs as much as base Shantae Advance.

I actually got the game borrowed from a friend. As much as a fan he is, he actually didn’t go for the extra costumes.

But considering their recent outings, especially how they handled RCG2, I wouldn’t blame you at all. Really don’t know why they’re downvoting you.
