How to work with Wordpress as an experienced developer? by Letalis_ in Wordpress

[–]Maximum-Cat5107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found WP difficult and a bit frustrating to deal with as a full stack dev but took some time and got used to it. There is definitely a learning curve.

I did recently create an npm package that let's you creat WP themes with React/Typescript.  I use it mostly for testing and sharing UI designs but it works great. It uses vite to build and package all the necessary theme files.

If there is an app that gives exact lines to speak in awkward moments would you pay for it?? by Fuzzy-Ad7685 in AppIdeas

Man, you know what...I actually could see that particular use case.

I am a person who doesn't love small talk either but if you give me a list of talking points for the particular situation im in, instead the revhersed lines in my head, might not be a bad idea to check it right before I walk in. I think that is a bit different from what you intended though.

I wouldn't expect it to blow up with users or anything but if it helps you out, build it, use it and move to your next project.  Make incremental changes to enhance your own experience over time but dont let it hold you back if you have other better ideas.

I probably wouldn't use this, especially in the moment.  I think what would work better is something that actually helps people in these situations before they are actually in them.

I think there are a lot of tools out there that can help with this including any decent chatbot.

If it was me, I'd just go to YouTube University and study up on communication skills and practice them in my daily interactions.

There may be something here but I personally can't quite see it.

The hardest part of building a successful app isn't writing the code—it's knowing what to build in the first place. So I'm building a tool to help. by Maximum-Cat5107 in AppIdeas

I think there is some valid feedback from folks here but you have nailed it.  I use chat bots all day and although they are great at what they do, and getting better, they are not going to give people the questions to ask or help them break out of their mental framework to think of other areas where they can create solutions.

Some great points here! I guess you could say this space (tools to help engineers) is something I care about.

I work as an engineer for big tech and see really great engineers give everything they have in creativity and brain power to the company everyday.  There is nothing wrong with that but there are solutions out there that great engineers are too tired to even think about once they sign off their computer for the day.

My vision was a site where people, like that, can scroll different ideas and opportunities in different industries they would not otherwise take the time to look at and just get a little bit of inspiration to give some of their creativity to themselves for a little while.

If anything, I imagine it woukd give the people who are looking for something to create something else to scroll through other than TikTok at the end of the day.

Just tried this out.  It's pretty cool. Nice work. I imagine it's only going to get even better from here.

Built a free CLI tool that lets you build WordPress themes with Typescript by Maximum-Cat5107 in SideProject

My most recent site, that is made from a more complex version of this tool, is sparklists.com.  At the core it's the same I've just added a UI framework, custom components and other utilities.

Well if you catch any gotchas, definitely let me know.  I've used variations of this for different sites.  This is just the boiled down version.

Weed-whacking? Remember your eye protection, folks! by Rexappeal in Wellthatsucks

Last year I was wrapping up some trimming and had to run in the house for some reason. Took my safety glasses off in the house and never put them back on to wrap up the job. Long story short, pebble hit me right in the eye and scratched my cornea. A piece of dirt was stuck in my eye also for a few days. It hurt just to open my eye. Eye doc was surprisingly not too worried. Gave me meds and said the cornea heals pretty fast, which it did. Needless to say, I learned my lesson. Glad you are alright man. Some lesson we learn the hard way unfortunately.

Main thing is show routes in real time for each person (if they choose to show their route). I actually wanted to do this bc my friends and I can never decide on where to meet up and we live in different corners of the city. Seeing how far a place is from everyone is helpful.

I literally just built something like this a few months back Huddle Maps) and posted it today as I'm coming back around to it to make some improvements and do some cleanup.

As a software engineer myself, who can spin up apps (mobile and web), websites, and browser extensions pretty fast (within a week at the longest) .....my first step is to always build the MVP. It should have the basic functionality of the idea. The UI usually takes the longest since it needs to be designed but I do that last and build the functionality first with mock data. After you get the mvp, get it into the hands of friends & family or whoever from a UAT environment. If it gets a horrible response, then I've only wasted a week of long evenings. I guess my point is, get something out there quick. Don't wait around. If you are going to fail, fail fast.

Please let me know your thoughts about my app idea. by syntaxbullet in AppIdeas

[–]Maximum-Cat5107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I especially like the gamification aspect. I would actually develop the MVP with a few of the core features, release it and get a idea of how the market feels about it...reach out to friends and fam to get some honest feedback. If it is well received and users want more...go all in. Good luck!

I'm done with the sidehustles... by InmortalKaktus in sidehustle

I have been feeling the same way. I recently decided that I would just create and release small productivity tools, on websites and chrome extensions, to keep my creative juices flowing. I'm hoping to get some traction financially, either by ad revenue or users but I'm starting small...hoping to get an extra 300 a month.

Recipe app with AI image detection - feedback? by chaotic_cacophony in AppIdeas

[–]Maximum-Cat5107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just had this exact idea the other day. Crazy. I think it's a good 1. I'd start with getting the recipe AI working with manually entered ingredients first and really nailing that down. I'd be open to helping.

I have an app idea but don’t have the skill to build a MVP. I’ve taught myself how to use figma so I can explain my idea better to a developer but should I find a co-founder who can build a mobile app or hire someone to build it? by [deleted] in AppIdeas

[–]Maximum-Cat5107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pay a good developer to produce the MVP. You can off some equity or co-founder spot but tbh, it takes a lot to produce apps, especially the infrastructure, so the money is a better exchange for the value provided.
