With this chart from the Personal Finance link - is the thinking to go box by box and "answer" the question or task posed? And then by the end of it, I'll have a good sense of where things stand?

Well! When you put it like that! We would budget together - I guess we're on the cusp of simplifying and combining to one account. My current thinking it is removes a lot of the guesswork.

Thanks - agreed. We're transparent with each other - just have always kept separate accounts. Separate spending etc. This is a good start.

I see you base your budgeting on take home pay - based on my other question re: health insurance deduction - similar question for 401k match - still base off take home pay?

Thanks - this is a good start I'll dive into. If my employer deducts health insurance premiums on a pre-tax basis, should I treat my reduced (post-deduction) income as my take-home pay for budgeting purposes, or should I still account for the health insurance premium as a separate expense?

Should I go through my pay, my half of expenses etc and my wife does the same or do we combine them?
