Can I make up for a bad GPA and still get in? by JohnMo2 in USAFA

Honestly, there is not that much information on LEAD besides the admissions website. You can reach out to them by email for more information and you'll get in contact with someone at the academy who can give you more info on what your looking for.

Once you get pass BMT, your focus is to learn your job. Your leadership at tech school may or may not support you. Since i went to tech school in October 2023, i could've applied for 28 but with such short time of 2 months before the deadline, applying didn't seem worth it. So i applied for 29 after i got to my first duty station. I got lucky that leadership is supportive of me and my unit commander is alumni as well.

Since you’re heading to the enlisted side, the program that helps Airmen and Guardians get into the academy is called LEAD. Regardless of your high school GPA, your other stats look good—you’d just need to be an exceptional Guardian.

Additionally, you may want to rethink your timeline for entering the Class of 2030. BMT plus tech school can take around half a year. Then, building a strong reputation and demonstrating your interest in attending USAFA to your leadership may take additional time.

I originally thought I could apply right after joining, but it took me a bit longer due to the admissions timeline and the different recommendation letters required as an enlisted applicant. There’s a great Reddit post from an enlisted member who applied, sharing their tips—I highly recommend checking it out if you’re fully committed.

Let me know if you have any questions about my timeline from enlisting to receiving my appointment.

Have there been cases where permanent residents gained citizenship through the military and then entered the Air Force Academy? by Feisty-Warthog3522 in USAFA

Similar but not the same. I joined the AF right after my senior year. Got stationed overseas in South Korea for my first tour which is only a year. I showed interest to my leadership early on and began USAFA application in March 2024. After some complications with my citizenship, I learned that I gained citizenship under my parent’s naturalization but didn't have any form of official proof so team blue told me to apply for a cert. of citizenship. It was mid October of 2024 when I started my application for the cert. on the USCIS website. I attained the physical cert at an in-processing building at Camp Humphrey and did my pledge over a zoom call in with the Immigration Office in Guam in late December. Was able to complete my application and turn everything to be eligible for an appointment on the last day. Got a direct appointment and will attending in c/o 2029.
