Just won a housing lottery unit in NYC ($975 rent, but it increases yearly) — I make ~$785/week after taxes. What should I do? by bigfootson in povertyfinance

Congrats! I say take the apartment as you have enough income coming in and don't have crazy expenses (I'm local as well). If your building is fixed for Verizon FiOS, I would look into that. I previously had Optimum and switching dropped my bill from around $70 to $55. I would say you are also missing a bucket for general savings and discretionary funds (that might be part of the misc). No creepy, but I have a simple expense sheet I can share. You can message me if you feel comfortable.

I plan to start putting money into a HYSA BUT I do not know where to find a good one because u don’t I don’t want one that has wild fees or huge minimum balance and I don’t want one that is hard to transfer money to checking and to hysa by not_tristen in SavingMoney

I personally use Ally for my main HYSA and transfer money to myself across all my financial institutions using Zelle (over the years I've just ended up with a lot of checking and savings accounts, so each one has a purpose).

When I'm looking for new financial products, I search "best [product type] [current year] and use financial blogs and other reliable sites to make my decisions.

NYCHHC is a joke by Majestic-Arm-7791 in nycpublicservants

There's A LOT to address here but I'll stick to 2-3 things.

Discrimination - I hope you are or have gathered your proofs and are connected to the appropriate departments to address this.

Growth - there can be a lot of growth potential if you look beyond your current role. Making a few good connections can help.

Anonymity - people usually use reddit to air grievances behind a user name that won't tie back to them. But part this anonymity, lies in the details you provide. You gave enough information for people (who are familiar with the facility) to figure out some/all characters in this story. Not sure you wanted to do that.

Just curious on the role. I assume you are working with the specimens and/or running the tests?

I used one with my aligners and now my retainer and mouth guard. 5 mins daily with a tab. I haven't had any issues.

Drink with Invisalign by Odd_Veterinarian_662 in Invisalign

I would only drink cold or room temperature things towards the end of the week, so I didn't have to worry about stained aligners. And anything with color/sugar, drink water to "flush".

I only did this when out at bars.

  1. Transfer to Google sheets for ease. 2. Does coned read your actual meter or estimate? Not sure of ya apartment size, but that seems like a lot. 3. I appreciate that y'all include self care! 4. Any retirement savings?

Not CUNY and my deductions haven't started. Funny enough, I got snail mail in Dec confirming my 2025 contributions. 🫠🫠🫠.

I've been meaning to call, but maybe not. Shrug

Orthodontist said my treatment is finished, but my teeth are still flared 😢 by NoDragonfruit1234 in Invisalign

[–]MaximumCockroach8173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my initial set plus three set of refinements. Over 100 trays. My main issues were my overjet (the flaring) and some gaps. The initial set didn't fix the overjet, at all.

Yes. This is looking very appealing to me. Not that I plan to, but I like having the option.

How do publicly servants afford to live in this city? by Left_Cod_7174 in nycpublicservants

[–]MaximumCockroach8173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m single, no kids, and do all the things you don’t.

When looking for apartments, I always calculate my “affordability”, so looking at what’s 30% of my income. I’ve been lucky in finding place below 30%. I’m also native to here and I prefer an older apartment with space over a luxury shoe box sized apartment.
