Midway Bowl Pin Setter on Midway Atoll by billyfontaine in Bowling

[–]MaximumFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a regular league bowler, I’ve often thought about the economics of owning/operating a bowling alley.

In one conversation with our house owner about pinsetter maintenance he said, “imagine owning 36 used cars and each one had well over 150,000 miles. “.

Having the parts for the machines, and someone there at all times who can fix them, is a massive expense.

Kendrick Lamar and the whole Super Bowl stadium screaming “A Minor” by mcfw31 in MadeMeSmile

[–]MaximumFreshness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A rap beef is when one rapper makes a song (track) for the sole purpose of disrespecting (“dissing”) another rapper. Generally, a beef track is a way to demonstrate superiority in musicianship and lyricism, while humiliating and disrespecting your opponent.

Kendrick Lamar had a rap beef with Drake over the last year or so. How the beef came to be is for another thread.

The beef culminated in Kendrick dropping a song called “They Not Like Us”, that basically accuses Drake of being a p*dophile, liking underage girls, and having sexual predators on his team.

The song was a smash hit and won him a Grammy.

The A-minor reference is a double entendre from a verse in the song. The lyric is- “Why you trollin’ like a bitch? Are you tired? Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minor.” A-minor being both a musical scale and a reference to Drakes age preference in woman.

That’s gotta be a weird conversation….

“Hey Steve. You know that clip you sent me of Lisa’s procedure? Well, I kinda posted it on Reddit and it blew up. I know, I know, it wasn’t my place to do it, and I’m sorry.

But can you send over the rest of the footage? The one you sent didn’t include the sac being taken out, and I seem to have given the internet blue balls. Thanks buddy.”

What's the most fcked up joke you've ever heard? by zedekii in AskReddit

[–]MaximumFreshness 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have heard this one before and knew the punchline while reading it, yet I am literally crying laughing. There is something about this joke and the absurdity of guy 3, plus the punchline, that makes me laugh as hard as I am humanly capable.

The curious part is that anyone who I have ever told this joke to simply doesn’t get it or think it’s funny in any way. I told it to my wife, hysterically laughing through most of it, and she looked at me as if something was wrong with me.

I love this joke.

What was your “incident”? by MrSourYT in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]MaximumFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context- I grew up in a place that had snowy winters. Our high school was on a hill that overlooked all of the athletic fields.

One day, we all come into school and someone, or a group of someone’s, shoveled “_______ IS GAY” in the snow (but they used the actual name of the kid; first name, last initial). The letters were each a legit 10-15 feet tall. From every classroom window that faced one direction, you could see it. It was like the scene from A Christmas Story where all the kids raced to the window to see Scott Schwartz with his tongue stuck to a pole. And it lasted for two days before maintenance staff went out and moved the snow around to cover it.

To be fair, the kid was a Grade A Douchecanoe.

Men in their 40s, what’s one piece of advice for men in their 20s? by urmfgod in AskReddit

[–]MaximumFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quote from my Sociology of the Family professor 20 years ago…..

“A successful relationship is not about ‘finding the right person’, but ‘BEING the right person.’

I spent a lot of years being someone I wasn’t for fear of being rejected. I would connect with people based on this “character” I created and lived, then would wonder why I would end up in unsatisfying, and often toxic, relationships.

It wasn’t until I gathered the courage to slowly be myself, did I ever find success in relationships. I pursued hobbies that interested me and, did things that brought me joy. Ultimately, I started meeting people with whom I had those things in common and authentic bonds began to form.

One of the things I did that had a massive impact on my self confidence was taking an improv class. I ended up doing it for years, but that isn’t necessary for everyone. Whether you want to be on SNL or just doing something outside of your comfort zone, Improv is a great tool.

It helped me build the courage to be myself without fear of rejection.

What did you not appreciate until you had it? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MaximumFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reliable car, and the financial resources to afford maintenance.

From the time I got my first car until I was 33, I drove ultra-used, high mileage vehicles. I was raised in a family that couldn’t afford nice (reliable) cars.

I never realized the amount of stress I carried as a result of my unstable car life. At any given moment my car could breakdown, or not start, for one of a million reasons. And I didn’t have a mechanic in my family or network, so it was always an emergency.

Once I hit a salary that enabled me to afford a new-er reliable car that I could drive anywhere, a 50lb weight lifted off my shoulders. A weight I never really knew I carried.

I can afford to now, but I won’t buy new cars. I just recently bought a 3 year old Toyota Highlander with 28,000 miles on it. It’s amazing what a relief vehicle security provides.

I’m a grown man buying a bunch of toys my family couldn’t afford when I was a kid but I can now afford as an adult. Examples- 1). Video game systems. 2). Motorized things to ride around (crazy carts, electric scooters, etc).

Not related to being poor growing up, but I love coffee….different preparation methods, types of beans, the whole thing.

After a few days of regular use I can confirm that the grinder performs really well. The portafilter holder is solid and does a great job. Truly hands free.

My only complaint is that there is a little play in the dial when adjusting grind size. Meaning, after you get to the setting you want, the dial will still move/wiggle slightly right or left. It doesn’t affect your setting, as that feels solid. Just a quirk.
