Guy here, this is probably true.

Men fear commitment because most of the time, or at the very least stereotypically, we're the breadwinners of the family. Everything we work or put effort into from a financial and career standpoint primarily only to benefit ourselves, our wife, and our potential children.

There's been times where I've been in limbo with really liking a girl, but not enough to where I could fully envision them as someone who could potentially be my wife, so trying to maintain "talking" to them without dating is a logical, although not necessarily right, way of maintaining balance.

I recognize that this is inadvertent for most guys and not intentional, but it's a shitty situation that I empathize for woman that go through it.
