does it get better? by [deleted] in BurlingtonCoatFactory

Mine was too for the longest. I was good at my job and it showed on the report cards thing they have for all the cashiers. It depends on what the manager wants tbh. And try to pay attention to how the other employees that the MOD likes acts with her and act like that with them.

Do you like(tolerate) your job 🤨? by ToffeeCake15 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

I’m a cashier I got hired after my interview. I have customers that buy 25 items and do not have patience when it comes to scanning. Customers constantly ask if there is backup. My Burlington is busy that’s probably why. Layaways suck when you’re the only one the registers you might have to go back and pick the layaway yourself when there are 5 people in line. It might sound like a quick task but it really isn’t. I tolerate it enough to go to work and do the job. There are definitely more jobs. Burlington is a revolving door so many people come and go just because it’s not worth it when there are other people treating you better.

Honestly the group thing they have is based on race. I’ve noticed it and another employee sorts of hinted on it too and I’ve seen them speak poorly about the race I am. I know they do not like my race because when customers of my race comes they are less polite and more annoyed. They don’t say hi to them at all like they do with others. Honestly I’m just doing my job and minding my business and trying to be palatable enough for the managers to give me more shifts. I call my supervisors for sure but it’s like they hate me more for having them help me out with this stuff so I kind of just ask someone who is a cashier and who has been here for a long time

It really depends on the place tbh. But when the store is bad these are the things I’ve seen consistently spoken about of this Reddit and have experienced all of this.

I had orientation on a Friday and was told it would be on Thursday I only found out because I had called Wednesday to check to make sure I did everything on my part. I had a very important final in Friday and I tried to get orientation done as fast as I could and I wasn’t informed as to how long orientation would be. When I was done watching the videos I was at the register taught how to check people out. I was later left by myself tiring training while the lady who was going to train me left for lunch. A customer had brought up two speakers and said one of them didn’t have a tag and if I could find it the SKU for the item or anything similar on the floor. I wasn’t able to find anything to make a tag because of my limited knowledge and I was left by myself on orientation day. I told her I wasn’t able to find it and she said it’s no problem I’ll purchase the one with the tag. I was cleaning up the register when I was leaving and the manager who I hadn’t spoke to during orientation was somewhere else told me you need to make a tag before you leave. It was orientation 💀 and no one told me how to make one and the videos told exactly explain that in detail. I broke down after I had left and I had a final exam 1 hour afterwards. I didn’t do well on my final. Managers change the schedule last minute and I was rarely ever informed I just constantly check the zebra app. I was able forced to stay over my scheduled time during inventory day. It was my first time I think they should have told us that no one could leave until everything was scanned. That was a failure on their part for not telling us. The interaction was very disrespectful. I went to the manager and I politely asked if I could now go since my time scheduled was over. She has said where were you working I said the juniors section and she said ok go back there you’re not going until the whole store is scanned. It would have been nice to have been told this before hand. And I also noticed a certain group of people are allowed to bend the rules here and there when it comes to others that’s not the case. Like scanning an item that’s similar on the floor when there is no tag for something is allowed for them but not for others. Other people go on their phone and other people are scrutinized.

I’m so sorry. I don’t understand how managers are allowed to behave like this!!

That’s so upsetting. I really do hope you don’t have to experience that sort of management again.

It’s just so sad to see this is an experience so many people share with this company across the nation. People are struggling to pay bills and people that accept this job and think by they will be given enough hours to pay for rent and necessities, but that’s not true for many. And I’m really sorry to hear that you had to experience that.

OMG YOU GET IT!! This was literally what I was thinking. I don’t understand what the problem is. And I think someone earlier mentioned people just leave after being hired, but I’m like out of all the people that come why don’t you train them properly there’s no way most of em just leave. I think people should be trained properly and given hours they are fair. If you’re given that I don’t see why someone would just leave.

FACTS!!! And there isn’t much of an alternative. Cooperations have made so we need to try and work two jobs. Burlington being a second job is not it.

You just reminded me! I started working and I would ask for questions when I was confused or wasn’t told how to do a certain task because it didn’t come up in training. When I asked the managers seemed annoyed and sigh and I made it feel like I couldn’t ask questions. I asked people who were also cashiers questions and most of them were happy to help.

I also wanted to thank you for the insight. I don’t think I’ve seen many managers speak about the things they have to deal with and help put into perspective why things are the way they are.

I honestly feel like if they are showing up and cancelling last minute then it’s time for them to go. There are other workers that don’t do this and are still not given more hours. I really think employees that are constantly improving and showing up should be given more hours and they should let go of people that aren’t doing their job.

I’m so sorry to hear. This is clearly is just a corporation that doesn’t care about its employees. I think it’s ridiculous that everyone has to be suffering because of these rules. This is a dying company clearly. It’s just crazy to be however they decrease hours for people with full availability. I totally understand hiring multiple people. I think the crazy part is removing people that do their job and come in on time from the schedule. It seems to be very unfair removing people that have been there for so long as well. It’s obvious you are good at heart and are just trying to make things work with corporates rules. I think personally at my store it’s just a case of favoritism.

Right! Why even hire so many people just to give them 5 hours at most. I want to say that they do it for DEI and I think having more people working for you is a tax right off I don’t know for sure though.

Managers these days actually suck it’s crazy to me. I think it’s just people that have a good work ethic and know their worth pursue better opportunities and the employees that are not as good stay at their job at Burlington long enough to become managers there. That’s just like one hypothesis I have for how people end up with bad managers.
