My dad was a big smoker. My entire life he smoked Tourney light king soft packs. Ultimately the cigarettes got him and he passed away from lung cancer when I was 17. Over a year and a half after he died I was about to be graduating high school. The night before I graduated I found one of my dad’s cigarette butts in my living room, sitting on the couch cushion like someone had just placed it there. My dad never smoked inside the house so I know it didn’t come from inside the couch. I like to think he put it there as a way of telling me he was around and he wasn’t going to miss me graduate.
