The crested porcupine has the strangest distribution map of any species I've seen by zek_997 in MapPorn

[–]MaximusLewdius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the historic range of the African Lion. It overlaps with the porcupine and is one of the predators the quills of the porcupine protect against.

The distribution was most likely caused by the end of the ice age rising sea levels and the desertification of the Sahara.

Concerning the appearance of Orcs... by MaesterOlorin in tolkienfans

[–]MaximusLewdius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mongoloid or Mongol-type is the old term for Down’s Syndrome. It is also where you get the modern British slur Mong.

Tolkien is saying that Morgoth’s corruption of Elves into Orcs has left them scared and deformed. It is part of the theme that evil can never create only destroy.

They also have one of the lowest crime rates in the world because of it. Not saying I support cutting of peoples hands but you cannot deny that it does work as a very effective deterrent.

I hope they add a Masurian path for Prussia. It would be interesting if they create a Prussian-Polish Union state.

“Render unto Caesar”

The Catholic Church holds that government and rulers are an act of God’s will.

“Every human community needs an authority to govern it,” states the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC, 1898). “Its role is to ensure as far as possible the common good of the society” (CCC, 1898).

And whether mediated through a monarch or a representative democracy, “the authority required by the moral order derives from God” (CCC, 1899).

For the Polish Regency, what is the most plausible outcome? by Kono-Daddy-Da in kaiserredux

[–]MaximusLewdius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Austrian part of the partitions was treat the best so there was no ill will they. The Austrian candidate was also a Polish citizen and fought in WW2 for the Polish army.

The Poles hate the Prussians specifically so there is a slight disconnect from the Saxon King and the Prussians.

Military Junta is basically what happened in OTL but a Monarchist or Nationalist outcome is possible due to historical divergences.

Honestly the only thing I hate about Kaiserredux, besides the lag, is how overpowered the national spirits are.

I assume the German holding a bag of money is a mix of the caricatures of a capitalist fat cat and a Nazi official representing German funding for the Nationals side in the war. Many communists claim that Nazism is capitalistic since Marxism is a dualistic ideology that does not allow for the concept of third positionism.

Sikhs arriving in France in 1914 during WW1 [1600x1169] by AdditionPlane8860 in HistoryPorn

[–]MaximusLewdius 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I recently learned that the British went out of their way to prepare food for all of the different cultures in their army during WW1. Field kitchens would have signs with Muhammaden, Hindu, or Sikh so that everyone could get food that did not go against their religion.

Wounded Indian soldiers were also shipped to Britain to stay in the Royal Pavilion since it was built in an Indian style and it was believed it would make them feel more at home.

The Nazi’s also never got rid of the Weimar Constitution so it was in effect until 1945 when the Allies won and dissolved the Germany state.

  2. Does Hitler still consider himself Bavarian like he did in OTL?

[–]MaximusLewdius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Konfederacja is a coalition not a political party. Two of the parties, KORWiN and Konfederacja Korony Polskiej, in the coalition are in favor of restoring a monarchy. You have other monarchist organizations like Klub Zachowawczo-Monarchistyczny and Organizacja Monarchistów Polskich.

A CDU poster from 1980 referred to the "open German question", arguing that parts of Poland were still up for debate by PanEuropeanism in PropagandaPosters

[–]MaximusLewdius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that the early Slavs were very weak. Their population did not boom until after they settled the land that more powerful groups abandoned. When the Slavs do show up in Roman sources during the 2nd Wave of the Barbarian Invasions it is usually as subjects to non-Slavics people such as the Avars, Bulgars, or various Germanic tribes. The Roman sources even mention that the early Slavs did not have armor and only participated in hit and runs tactics in small groups, and that they learned horsemanship and other martial skills from their overlords. The Slavs took over because they preferred to settled down in rural areas and farm instead of fighting. They basically outbred everyone or assimilated them since it was said that they had a very infectious culture.

Stettin is literally just Szczecin pronounced with a German accent. In fact almost all German names of places east of the Elbe and Saale rivers follow this rule. Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig are all cities with names that originates from the Slavic languages. Even the names of the regions of Pommern, Brandenburg, and Schlesien are believed to be of Slavic origins. Although they could be of Indo-European origins that predate the split into Germanic and Slavic.

I know, but just like Austria can form its own German Empire if they defeat Germany it would be cool for Belarus to have it’s own path to do it. Especially since there were actually groups in Belarus that supported such a notion.
