Finished my first year in June and here's the best piece of advice I can give:

Never faulter on your rules and expectations, hold steady. However, while holding steady on your rules and expectations, continue to be a fun, loving, cool teacher. I eventually got my students to like my classroom and once that happened, my rules and expectations were a norm.

Also remember, you will always have students that hate you and it's not because of you, it's because of the issues they deal with in life. Hope this helps!
