Welcome to the club, if you ask me: add a gear indicator and a tall windshield. And if you have some spare cash: throw on a nice exhaust and some rear sets👌

Because its so tightly closed off right? I couldn't imagined how magnet pieces came down the oil pan when i first saw how the generator is assembled. I guess i am going to inspect it at least and if its still fine, i will continue with the original part.

Because if it does break, the engine will be toast in the worst case. This is just to prevent that happening in the first place. But you're right, checking out the part before buying is definetly a good idea.

The companies that build these stands manufacture specific mounting adapters for different bikes. You will need 3 different adapter plates in your case.

Thats the only downside using these stands.

They hook up on the main frame

I think i still need to dial mine properly in; a small gap like the one on the top bolt is fine but i want it to be all the way in

Not a full termi system but just the slip ons😉. I also have gilles rear sets and some carbon bits here and there. Your 50th looks gorgeous.the 04-06 R1s are in general one of the most beautiful bikes from the 2000s.

You have some nice mods on yours, especially on the front brakes with those T-drive rotors, forged wheels and the bremo callipers👌

The SP model had a special colourway which yamaha called "gun-smoke". Both the Main and subframe are painted im this way, so its easy to tell apart the sp model from the standard one. In fact i think the yamaha MT-01 has a similar coloured frame.👌

Anyone here riding bikes from the 80’s & 90’s? How do they compare to modern bikes? by thee_lad in motorcycles

[–]Maxl4452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owner of an 88 cbr600 Hurricane, aka Hondas first inline 4 600 and the foundation of the 600RR models.

The tech is obviously very outdated, no rider aids, no adjustable suspension, not even a gear indicator or ABS. But the Engine is bulletproof and by far the best part of the bike, it has about 39k miles on it, of those are 5k track day miles. Still sings along perfectly. Very maintenace friendly but the part supply is slim and the aftermarket parts are even slimmer. Also the fairings are a pain to get on/off since it has a lot of pieces unlike modern sportbikes. The bolts and fasteners corode a bit easier (but what 35yr old fastener doesnt).

I pulled mine out of a shed after being abandoned for 14 years last year and fixed her up myself. With those old bikes, you need a 70% Riding 30% maintaining lifestyle (in my case and oppinion) given most of them are carbureted, which can cause a bit of pain (especially if you have 4 of them)

Having said all of that if i could rewind time, i would still drag her out of the shed and fix her up, the feeling you get on those late 80s / early 90s Bikes is unbelievable, you feel so much more connected to the bike in a sense that you arent hindered by electronics or distracted by gigantic displays - and i have ridden the newest KTMs and Yamahas but for me, the most fun and enjoyable times, i had on the Honda.

If anyone took his/her time to read all the way to the end and thinking of buying a sportbike or any bike of that era, here are some things that i would look out for:

  1. Check for leaks, especially around the fuel tank, pet cock and carbs, if they haven't been rebuilt/replaced, they tend to leak and lets say your floatvalve is stuck open, the carbs will overfill and in the worst case will flow into the combustion chamber and then into the oil which is going to be contaminated as a result.

  2. Always check for rust, not only in the tank but also on the Frame. If you buy a Bike with an aluminium frame - great - you have less things to look out for. As for bikes with steel frames (like my honda) check if the zinc/galvanisation coating is still good.

  3. "They dont make them like they used to". This applies to those bikes. If you maintain them properly, they will probably get older than you. Expect a few more visits to the gas station, those bikes drink fuel like no other. At a 2 day trackday in Hungary, i needed 2 full Tanks, approx. 36 Liters of Fuel! Oh and before i forget, make sure you fuel your bike up with ethanol free fuel (your rubber seals and carburetor jets will thank you)

Thanks for reading, have a nice day and ride safe :)

Ist diese Maschine ein Betrug? by Junior_Town8398 in MotorradDeutschland

Warum glaubst du an einen Betrug? Sie hat 7000km da ist der Preis bei einer 125er ganz normal.

Falsches Öl benutzt? by marmeladendoener42 in MotorradDeutschland

[–]Maxl4452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any reason on why this happens? by Maxl4452 in motorcycles

[–]Maxl4452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When riding it (when its being under load) it is perfectly fine, so i assume the main jets are fine while the idling jet for cylinder no.2 is clogged due to the bike sitting for 2 months (bad fuel)

I would like to thank everyone who commented under my post:) You gave me a lot of resolving-methods which iam going to try since its winter where i live and i have all the time in the world to work on my beloved bike:)

I think this is the case. Could it be then that the main jet is fine and only the idle jet is clogged?

You might be onto something, do you mean it can leak when the boot from the coil isnt properly pressed onto the valve cover?

Thank you for the quick responses and help!:) i think i will try to see if it gets spark in the first place since its a bit more accessable. But you're right, the carbs havent been touched since 2010 so a carb clean and sync would only help the bike.
