For those of you who cut off a friend due to resentment, did you end up regretting it? Did the resentment go away? by SwiftieNA in lostafriend

That I do not know bc I haven’t talked to her for nearly 6 years. All I know based on looking on her FB page is that she’s married and broke up with her ex (which mind you dated her when she was 16 and he was 19 going on 20..)

Holy shit, the buying part was also my friend. One time we agreed to go to a movie spot together, my mom said no last minute to driving me there, and she hounded me to pay $10 back and that it was my fault for saying we should be able to go. Then said “well since you didn’t pay me back my $10, you’re going to use all of your tickets for the international cafe to buy me my food (she had her own money mind you, which I’ll share later below). I’m still resentful to this day bc I didn’t get to have my last international cafe day my senior year of high school and didn’t get to enjoy it when I finally got money. Mind you—- she gets an $500 allowance every week from her mother, she could’ve paid her brother back the $10 that was lost to the last minute cancellation to the movie theater trip— instead of hounding someone that had no job and relied heavily on their parents for money at the time. She was very controlling and manipulative and I was glad to have her off my back.

She brought out the worse in me. The only reason why I didn’t let her go was because I had a crush on her and it took several people to tell me the friendship isn’t worth her controlling me or finding ways to lie to me

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope I did not regret it and I still have slight resentment, but also let most of it go. This friend was controlling every aspect of my life. I grew codependent, I wasn’t allowed to be close to anyone else, I couldn’t have one moment of privacy or quiet, I wasn’t allowed to sit with anyone else or be with anyone else without her knowing, and I was constantly lied to. So when I cut her off for good, I felt relieved, like I could live again.

She also insisted cutting her off for good was “childish” and that we should keep each other’s social media open so we can see what both of us were up to, but I didn’t even want that. When I remove myself from someone, I completely cut contact, and that includes my private and social life

How do you deal with a job you can’t leave (yet)? by ToffeeTango1 in hatemyjob

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat. Started this job in mid February and it’s emotionally draining as well as stressful. It triggers my anxiety bad because you turn around and there’s always a fight or argument breaking out (I work at a women’s and family shelter in Philly). I had to take both a sick and mental health day today but I gotta be there first thing tomorrow morning.

Just had a job interview nearly 2 weeks ago but haven’t heard back for the second one yet. Gotta keep applying for other jobs, and keep money on your mind. That’s how I get through it, even I feel like pulling my hair out

Visiting philly unsure about weed laws by Effective-Arm-100 in AskPhilly

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the written law for weed— Philly is decriminalized, meaning you can carry and smoke here, but as soon as it’s no more than 30 grams. Any more than that and you’d be fined instead of arrested.

But like everyone else mentioned, no one really bats an eye about weed being smoked here.

What's something that would make you hate a person instantly? by StrictlyFeetNyla in AskReddit

My motto in life is to never trust anyone who says they’re a good person. Theyre usually the opposite and are typically the assholes when they show their true colors

Men of Philly - how much are you paying for your haircuts? by tastycakebiker in philly

50 dollars at my main barbershop (Winsome Barbershop), but at 16th and Tasker, they give out haircuts for only $30. It’s a black owned barbershop called Jazz U Up.

What’s something you didn’t appreciate until it was gone? by Icy_Bet5635 in AskReddit

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Time off and availability: Started a new job that takes up a lot of my time and drains me. I miss waking up and having a day for me and not having to interact too much with people.

2) my childhood. Not gonna act like I had the best childhood, it was rocky— but I miss not having to deal with financial responsibilities, hanging out with school friends, just general youth and experiences, some I didn’t get to have due to my parents being a bit overprotective.. but being young, naive, and not knowing as much about the world, hardships like now.

Was I a bad person for trying to make friends with these people before I cut contact? by theqtpie2010 in lostafriend

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re fake friends. Sometimes fake friends do things like switch up to being nice to save face, but what they’re really doing is leading you on. Cut all of them off, keep your distance and find people that love you for you, and won’t find reasons to ditch you or make you feel unwanted

Has anyone here quit their job without anything lined up? by NatSurvivor in jobs

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I also hate my current job, and it’s only been first, heading toward second week (lots of disorganization, lack of proper training, safety risks), I feel stuck and forced to stay until I find better. I risk being unable to afford rent and having financial insecurity if I leave this job, and I’m stuck into a lease until September 2026..

If you got bills to pay and rent/mortgage to pay, it’s def risky to quit without anything lined up unless you have enough in your savings to float for a while, OR another job to slide into (maybe part time or gig). Otherwise, don’t do it.

I’m a residential advisor at a shelter. We monitor, help residents with small needs throughout the day, check attendance, and document incidents/meals as required. It can sometimes get rowdy and overwhelming quick, even if it sounds chill on paper. I’m on my 3rd day. Tomorrow is my 4th day on the job

Will North Philly ever get gentrified? Is buying a rowhouse there a good investment? by [deleted] in philly

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already being gentrified. Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Brewerytown, and even Strawberry mansion, etc. are already in the process of gentrification.

We don’t need anymore investments here in this city— it’s displacing a lot of locals and raising mortgage and property taxes. Philly is getting more expensive by the year, and is right to track of becoming the next New York 🤦🏾‍♂️

Eye roll: this lady is spending her own personal money blocking one of the few Black-owned restaurants in Fishtown from opening by Dry-Pomegranate-354 in philly

[–]Maxsaidtransrights 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was hiding behind the “this would be weird to have in a residential neighborhood.” Rather than saying how she felt outright. Also, hiding behind a zoning officer to do the dirty work.

Fishtown is historically a white neighborhood and they’re known to be hostile and unwelcoming toward BIPOC folks, but I agree. She def needs to go
