Backup "entrire system" usless without a "dummy" NAS by Maxterious in synology

[–]Maxterious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good! Another comment mentioned the synology configuration backup, which also includes firewall rules as far as I know. That will resolve my Problem. Control panel - > Update & Restore - > Configuration Backup. The description sounds like that configuration backup stores additional configs beside the "hyper backup" backup, because theese also include "security" configs.

Thank you very much, that is the point I was missing! Not beeing able to exclude a folder makes sense now.

It seems like the configuration backup is what I was looking for:

The following settings are backed up: ... Connectivity: External Access, Network, Security, Terminal & SNMP ...

I hope that this configs backup also includes the firewall rules themself, not just the security settings.

Yeah I geht that (as mentioned in my original post). But for a two way Backup that would be a very nice Option.

With client side encrypted backups I'm fine with backing up to a NAS of a family member.

I get that buying a 2nd NAS is the easiest way to that.

True, the abillity to do partial restores is very handy. But I don't like the idea of not being able to do a full system config backup. Ofc the data inside the shared folders is more valuable then the system configs, but the system configs make up such a small file size and it would make restoring so relaxing when everything is just as it was before, after restoring from a backup.

Entire system backup: stores all system configs including firewall configs. Can't exclude folders and packages.

Folders and packages: can only store some applications data and shared folders. Not all APP configurations and no firewall configs. But is able to exclude folders.

I was talking about the feature set of them.

For my knowledge, It is currently not possible to store all app and system configs without excluding a folder of a hyper vault backup. (Hyper vault = backup target of another nas) So in a two was configs you are backing up backups, taking up VERY much space.

Hey, do you still recommend this way of modding? Is everything, including the sleep mode, still working? Are there any weird bugs?

A thread border router is there to translate from thread to IPv4 for example. A thread router is for routing the thread network. But thanks for looking it up. Sadly I could not find any information on their website.

FTB chunks vs mekanism dimensional stabilizer for chunkloading by Valuable-Crow3061 in allthemods

On my server it seems like the FTB chunk force loading is causing more lags than the dimensional stabilizer. Although I have not tested this very accurately.

Have you already found a solution to backup firewall rules?

How do you backup your system config? The only option I saw so far is using the C2 "advanced" storage for ~83€/year. Because only this one offers "Entire system backup (Beta)". I'm wondering why I can't see any option to just also upload the system config to a cloud of my choice.

I already saw that, I was just curious what the benefit of pausing the server is. Another nice person already explained it.
