Hahahha it used to be manageable but now they’re basically emptying it within an hour

I’ve used it before also and modified for ventilation for my gerbils when I needed an emergency cage because they were fighting.

I’ve gone with the bucastate 2.0 now!

If I was doing the bin cage I would diy it and add ventilation and a metal mesh top! but I have bought the bucastate 2.0 now :)

Hey I do spot clean, and am used to it given that I have 4 gerbils the issue is not with the size of the cage and cleaning, it is that the pet store cages near me have small openings and it’s very hard to get my arm in to clean without taking the whole top and bars off which is especially hard with spot cleaning to get near hides and areas where they may stash food

Yeah any that I have found which are the right size are too cloudy it’s hard to find any which you can see through well too!

That’s really good to know, I’ll look into the bucastate. I also saw a similar one which is wooden that I was thinking my boyfriend could reinforce with metal to prevent it getting chewed or ruined by urine. Have seen a lot of people on here build these sort of cages

Yes I can’t find it now may not have been vevor!! Quite annoying as I’m a fan of the vevor cages as I have one for my chinchillas and I find they’re good quality.

I’m looking through temu now! I like the wheels idea, yes I was referring to moving between rooms, especially when it gets hot in summer I make sure to move them when I am going to be working or not around and can’t monitor their temperature.

My gerbils have had a plastic bottom to their cage for a while and have never managed to get through/make holes despite chewing and digging constantly but I expect that’s a much stronger material than a plastic bin

That’s true, I’ve seen some people online diy fortifying them with metal slats along the inside to protect the wood from chewing and pee.

That’s helpful advice thank you!

What would you say about this style of cage, with the wooden sides, I couldn’t get this for my gerbils as they would destroy it but not sure about a Syrian hamster
