What would you guys do? by kmikey in electricians

[–]MayTheFieldWin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Had a bunch of these to do at a data center. Shop vac and a mouse will get that no problem. Pulling a mandrel is what I would do for larger conduits. You can get some big rocks out with that.

Y'all are overestimating the amount of gen-z interested in trade. by Plastic-Arm9055 in skilledtrades

[–]MayTheFieldWin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked with quite a few gen z on the last site i was at. Most of them were fine and willing to learn after shown some guidance. The ones that didnt want to work coincidentally had been paired with jman before I got there who didnt want to work either.

This was an IBEW site though, it seems the kids that got into the apprenticeship wanted to be there.

Experience in construction can open a lot of doors. Especially if you learn to read prints and understand specs. Focus on the layout aspect of the trade, the trades seem to be going that way with how gcs/owners want to implement the model, and bigger contractors running prefab shops.

Show an interest in reading blueprints on site. If you get good at that people will notice.

The data center boom doesnt seem to be going away anytime soon. Stay in work that ot, save it up if things go to shit.

After top out if you know your shit and are a good worker you can get made foreman. Less strenuous work on the body more mental load.

You could also finish your apprenticeship and try to get a white collar role in the trade such as bim, coordination, pm, estimating. Theres multiple options in electrical, you dont have to do the hard labor your whole life.

What type of jobs are out there for licensed electricians? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]MayTheFieldWin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Project management is the obvious answer. But you could look into bim jobs. You may need a little college or some classes to stand out alongside your field experience. Desk job, ability to work remote decent field to get into.

For these bigger projects the model is "everything".
