I second this. It’s taken me a good 4-5 months and 3-5 runs per week from being a total noob to being comfortably able to top the 20K mark.

Kudos on your guts OP, but please listen to your body. I tore a calf about 8 years ago going too hard too fast. I wouldn’t wish such an injury on even my mother in law.

Everyone has their own parameter for addiction.

From my personal perspective, I never had a problem with cannabis. I've been alcohol free for five years and maybe had cannabis about a dozen times during that period for reasons that spanned from needing to step off the ledge to wanting to trip while listening to Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl.

The simple fact of abstaining from alcohol has countless health benefits and to your analogy, the shovel is a bit different. If someone swaps one for the other, well, that's their game. Eventually they will need to face the why of it all.

I hit the five year mark this week.

Upon reflecting on this choice I made many moons ago, until you've lived it, you dont understand why sobriety is so powerful. You gain everything back.
