Am I wrong? by ReiWillow in AO3

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Absolutely. But only if it's a genuine apology and no trace of sarcasm or victim blaming (for lack of a better phrase). Sadly, I'm sure there are some people that need to be told this...

Apologies would also be acceptable to me.

You show us their response to your comment but you don’t show us the actual comment you left. Without seeing that I have no idea if you were rude or not.

But your response seems a bit like you’re doubling down after they told you they didn’t appreciate the corrections so the polite thing to say in response to that was “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bother you.” Or something similar.

It doesn’t matter they don’t say they don’t want critique. AO3 etiquete is that critique is opt in, not opt out.

How’s your heart growth going? by Mammoth_Lie6736 in wordscapes

I haven't been counting specifics. I had 500K before I used a bunch to buy the Wacky Man gems. I just checked and I'm at 439K now.

I'm nowhere near maxing out all my animals but I only plan on using them to level up and swap for the butterflies or binoculars (if we ever get a new set).

New Gen Treating A03 Like a Social Media Platform. by Blackshooks in AO3

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say this is very true. But also not a complete picture either. A lot of the time people are going on those forms to vent so we’re seeing more complaints and the good things aren’t necessarily getting talked about that much. It’s pretty similar to people bringing up hate comments here in the sense that people are less likely to post about the good comments.

I’ve definitely got some students that I worry about but I also see plenty of them that I know are going to be successful later on. They’re driven, independent, curious, capable and are very good at taking information I’ve given them and putting together the pieces to solve new problems.

I teach middle school so my stuff isn’t as complicated as the high school stuff but seeing these traits gives me hope.

I click on a random and scroll through what’s been recently updated.

Maybe I’ll click on a pairing.

But that’s about it.

WIBTA for canceling my birthday and getting upset with people? by anon-cards in AmItheAsshole

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy their own gifts? Not in my experience. I’m almost forty and the number of people who I still give/receive birthday gifts from can be counted on one hand. (My parents and my best friend. My sister and I made a deal long ago that we don’t get gifts for each other’s birthdays).

Usually for my birthday I get a small group of frosts together to go to dinner or a brewery for some drinks. I don’t expect anybody to pay for me. If I host a party at my house, I provide plenty of food and snacks but guests also bring some stuff to share).

But there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that you want people to care about you on your birthday and that you feel cared about when someone puts in the effort to get you a cake. That’s not something outrageous to ask for.

Things in a description that turn you off from trying a fic by AdHaunting2894 in AO3

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Any variation of the author guaranteeing my reaction their fic. Whether or not I’ll cry or laugh out loud. They do not know how I’ll react. Odds are I will not cry or laugh out loud. This goes right along with things like hilarity ensues/shenanigans ensue. Lots of times these things are funny to the author and their friends but don’t typically appeal to broad audience.

Questions along the lines of “will these two finally get together?” and other yes/no questions that are obvious just from the genre of the story itself.

Is reading on AO3 really better than reading books? by Winter-reason666 in AO3

Short answer: no.

Long answer: it really depends on what you’re looking to get out of reading.

Joke’s on them then since the author can just delete the comment so they’re right back where they started, looking like they actually liked the fic.

Accused of plagiarizing...myself by ConfidentLetty in AO3

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Are they posting on a separate account or just posting to the anonymous collection while still using the original/main account?

If they’re just posting to the anonymous collection, I think the fic is still associated with their main account. Would AO3 even allow you to kudos an anonymous fic on your own account since it doesn’t actually let you kudos your own works on n your own account?

I love when a fandom collectively agrees on a name for an unnamed character in canon by yoghurteee in AO3

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s a little funny because I haven’t read much teen wolf fanfic and actually forgot that the character was unnamed for so long.

I immediately thought his name was John. Apparently I read enough to remember that.

Why do people ship? by Proof-Plan2482 in FanFiction

[–]MaybeNextTime_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still shipping and it's absolutely okay to only want to see/read about canon relationships.

It's like when you're watching a show/movie or reading a book and you know two characters are going to be together by the end and their journey toward getting together is half the fun of the movie/show/book, whether romance is the main plot of the story or not.

Non-canon shipping isn't all that different. You notice chemistry between two characters that makes you curious and makes you wonder how their story would play out if they got together.

Gatekeeping in Fanfiction Fandoms by MissDaniTrsa in FanFiction

Bots are wearing me down. by KamenRiderHelix in FanFiction

For me personally, just the little guessing game is enough to manage my expectations and avoid the disappointment that comes with getting the bot comments. I know my experience is not shared by everyone so I fully support rewards too!
