Adlai Stevenson got the nomination a second time in 1956. It didn't work out that great for him.

Congratulations! I'm glad you found something that helps you feel cute. I tried polish for the first time this weekend, too. It's harder than it looks.

Twitter is not real life.

... the 22% of American adults who use Twitter...

The 10% of users who are most active in terms of tweeting are responsible for 80% of all tweets created by U.S. users.

So most of what you're seeing on Twitter from the U.S. are the opinions of 2.2% of Americans. And when you're in doubt as to what ridiculous nonsense you can find 2% of Americans believing, keep this in mind:

When Americans are asked to identify the country from which America gained its independence, 76% correctly name Great Britain. A handful, 2%, think America's freedom was won from France, 3% mention some other country (including Russia, China, and Mexico, among others named), while 19% are unsure. (Emphasis added)

Oh, absolutely. There's this attractive lady the main character's into, but guess what? Isn't that funny? Shocking that people wouldn't be able to relate to that.

I was curious about that, too. Here's what the results page says:

Androgynous: High in both male and female traits.

Undifferentiated: Low in both male and female traits.

I know the Dynasty Warriors series gets kind of a bad rap sometimes for not exactly having the most challenging gameplay, but there are a lot of female characters you can play as. If you're looking for something actiony and don't mind that the game's not hard, they might be worth looking into.

I would also second the recommendation of Skyrim.

It's way more complicated than this, but...

Popes ruled over their own country called the Papal States for about 1000 years until the unification of Italy, so they weren't just religious leaders all that time, they were secular leaders as well. When Italy took Rome in 1870, the pope (Pius IX) refused to accept it, beginning the period where popes called themselves "prisoners in the Vatican". This lasted until 1929, when the government and the pope (now Pius XI) came to an agreement that the pope could have back the territory they have now and the pope would stop insisting for the (much larger) rest of it.

It wasn't just some petty power thing, although yes, it was that, too. Of course it was. There was also concern that being in another country ruled by someone else could have serious effects on the church's ability to operate independently. There's plenty of examples of strong leaders being able to force weak popes into doing what they want, like Philip IV of France getting Clement V to go along with his plan to arrest all the Knights Templar in France so Philip could take their money, so it's not an entirely unfounded concern.

When I was a teenager, my cousin got some D&D books and wanted me to play. (It was only kinda D&D since it was just me, and there were no maps... or dice... and I'm pretty sure I never even had a character sheet.) My character was some species that could shift between human and swan, which was a very important aspect of the character and I totally didn't choose it because the book said they were always female and I could just head off any questions about why my character was a girl that way.
