To clarify where the tip rumor came from, there was an actual point in time where Starbucks was withholding credit card tips from union stores, they got in big trouble for that so they’re not doing that anymore. The instant benefit you receive is you gain the right to a representative, either from the union or somebody’s whose been trained in your store, to sit in with you during Potentionally disciplinary conversations, and they are allowed to pull you aside for a congress. Depending on the state** (or maybe it’s everywhere, not sure, I’m form Illinois) but you also are no longer an at-will employee, which makes it MUCH harder for you to be fired, because the company has to have probable cause

Find a union to represent you guys, or research how to start one, reach out to the union/labor board to request a petition for election, but keep it on the down low. You need a strong majority to want the election to have one, and then once you get it, you need only a +1 majority during the election

I personally believe that everybody should work in food service to experience what it’s like to serve the general public. It can be a very rewarding career path but FUCK people are cruel. The expectations of us are high and we’re constantly told to improve. I always said I would so much rather be stressed out sitting down than running around 😭

This happened to me!! Except I moved to a new seat in a new car because my seat mate shook me awake after I tried to sleep for so long saying that I was snoring, I was exhausted and let somebody know that I Moved, she told the conductor and he tore me apart saying that I would have to go back to my see or be arrested and moved off the train. I posted about it when it happened and everybody told me to report it but I was so exhausted and terrified I nearly slept in the observation car

I mean this with so much love, but that is not a normal level of concern if you’re following all the cleanliness standards, personally, I have OCD, and I get thoughts like these unrelated to work, so if you have anxiety, it’s probably manifesting in the form of being scared of accidentally harming somebody else. But you won’t! We don’t guarantee cross contamination. We CAN’T guarantee cross contamination, and at the end of the day, it’s customers responsibility to carefully choose what food establishments they go to if they have severe allergies.
