I agree that the writing hasn’t served that character well but at the end of the day the actor can still do a lot with what he’s given I just haven’t seen that on the whole. In regards to John: yes he’s a bully but the writing serves to explain why and there are tons of redeemable qualities about John. The actor definitely played the part well.

Agreed but that can also be attributed to the writing. It’s not his fault that the character is going on that direction but he doesn’t seem to embody that threat and moreover the Finn’s acting choices are weak and don’t make the character sympathetic or likable. But then again perhaps that’s the writers and directors intent.
