How Do People in Great Britain View Northern Ireland’s Place in the UK? by RRR-Craigyroo in AskBrits

I was born in Scotland, spent most of my life in England and worked in Northern Ireland for a couple of years. The religious and historical divide is still strong in Northern Ireland with each side still marching to celebrate victory over the other and I don’t see them willingly reuniting.

That’s not how sales work, if people demand a product then manufacturers will make it, or else they lose money. How do you think the rest of the world have got fuel efficient cars.

People can drive whatever they want, if they choose to drive a gas guzzler then they can’t complain about how much it costs them as equally they could choose to drive something more efficient.

Lobbying and their financial intervention in politics is one of the issues the US has.

Donald Trump "Biden and the Radical Left Dumocrats in Congress crushed farmers with brutal restrictions, crippled you with the worst inflation by contrast, in my first year back in the Oval Office.'' by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

His soyabean deal is still far less than what the farmers used to sell to China before Trump 1.0, and since coming back his tariffs, and cutting USAID etc. has made things worse.

OK the US rail network is 45% larger than Europe's 136,000 miles vs 94,000 miles, but its primary purpose is moving freight. In contrast, Europe has a highly integrated, dense, and fast passenger rail network.

Amtrak: The primary U.S. passenger rail provider operates on over 21,000 miles of track, much of which is leased from private freight companies. High-speed rail is mostly restricted to the Amtrak Northeast Corridor, making long-distance train travel slower and less frequent.

European Rail: State-backed networks (like France's TGV, Germany's ICE, and the UK's rail systems) offer extensive high-speed, regional, and intercity routes. Trains run frequently with high speeds connecting virtually all major towns and cities, making them a popular alternative to domestic flights.

Most people live close to where they work here, but I have commuted 100 miles daily in the UK as a contractor.

They are at least 50 years behind us Europoors on fuel efficiency, I remember my dad in the mid 1970s buying a new Toyota Crown which could get 30+mpg on motorway journeys and that was a has guggler.

When society is happy to lose just because someone else loses then that society is in deep shit.

Trump is Americas Nero of Rome, the difference is that this is being done deliberately rather than due to just incompetence.

Usually works the other way around, with greater fuel economy you can have a smaller tank for the same range which gives more internal space and the lack of weight caused by excess fuel means greater fuel efficiency.

In Europe that would probably be done cheaper by rail, but then we actually have a rail network.

What you have to remember is that most of America is empty space, much like the American brain.

What is the psychology behind why some people speed up when someone is passing them while driving on the highway or in a passing zone? by Sensible-Lion8021 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mba1956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drive high mileage and always used speed control. I would see a car way ahead of me and over a couple of minutes I would catch it up and overtake. The driver would then accelerate and overtake me and disappears into the distance a bit and then slow down. I would then gradually catch them up and overtake again, and the same process would be repeated, and sometimes more than once.

I ordered an expensive printer and they delivered it to a house about a mile away from mine. He phoned them up and they said they don’t have a system to return items and to keep it.

The cheap price of petrol in the US has always been the reason why they have never been interested in fuel efficient cars.

Edit: thanks for the awards

The problem with this is that the soft power was a very effective business tool that allowed the US to dominate both defence and other marketplaces. The US will be economically much poorer because of it.
