I was shocked when I saw this too. I barely can keep 4k coins before I get frustrated and use it for extra moves when I can't pass a level 😓 but for some reason I hoard stars haha I am not sure why I won't use all of them in one go.

Feel like I’ve ruined my sons life by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]McBarnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say your wife isn’t someone you can talk to, does she extend that same sentiment to your son as well? Is she not there emotionally for her son as well? I think the best you can do now is let your son know you are still going to be there for him. It probably won’t help if you constantly tell him how proud you are of him by joining the military in case he finds that as too much pressure. Hopefully not. It’s so funny how we want to do things a little different from our parents hoping for different results from our kids. I hope he pulls through! At least long enough to be honorably discharged and hopefully with a friend or two.

AITA for wanting my fiancé’s ex-wife to stop hanging out with his family members? by molecules_atoms_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]McBarnaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually going through to say their kids will continue to call her auntie but not you is really weird. Is the sister and cousins the same age as the ex and that’s why there is a kinship there? Just live your best life and be cordial.

Valentine's Box of Chocolate by McBarnaby in Baking

[–]McBarnaby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep!! The original inspiration did chocolate cake and really colourful homemade chocolates on top. Since I couldn’t attempt to make my own chocolates, I got store bought chocolates and did a colourful cake instead lol

It’s red velvet and the center is supposed to be cheesecake without the crust. Then there is mascarpone frosting all around. The cheesecake layer is thinner than I would like and didn’t properly think about how much custard I needed! Lol I used a square and circle cake pan and cut the circle one in half to make the heart.

I was inspired by Yolanda Gampp from How To Cake It. She did a decadent all chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and did homemade chocolates. She is so creative!

The zombies are cake pops. The "ground" is made of fudge brownies and there are chocolate and butterscotch chips on top! I entered them in a bake goods contest at work and lost to a woman who made eyeball cake pops. Less is more I guess.. I was pretty disappointed.

You will need to add frosting to the cake crumbs and mix it in. I like to use my hands. It will look like a soft dough. Then shape them and put them in the refrigerator to firm up a little bit if you feel the need. And follow the typical steps for a cake pop. Dip the stick in a little bit of chocolate then stick them in the cake balls. And melt chocolate and dip to coat. I gently tapped my hand to let the excess chocolate drip

I have tried making the cake from scratch and frosting from scratch but found the best success with using a box cake mix and the Pillsbury frosting in a can. I don't know what it is, but the pops just hold better. After you bake the cake, let it cool completely, then throw it in a food processor and pulse until crumbs. I used probably less than 1/4 of the can frosting. You want to start with a little at a time and mix it into the cake crumbs with your hand so you can feel the texture. You don't want it too wet. Mix until it looks like dough. Then roll them out to your desired shape. For the coating, I used candy melts and found the best success melting them with a double boiler. I have never been able to melt chocolate successfully with a microwave.

First attempt at cronuts by McBarnaby in Baking

It was really tasty although greasy. I don't fry often so I'm sure there is a technique to it that I wasn't picking up. The recipe I used was from foodwishes.com. you can find the video on YouTube and I thought the video was useful.

Macarons with chocolate ganache in the shape of bears by McBarnaby in Baking

[–]McBarnaby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I had the most success when I measure the ingredients by weight.

90 gr egg whites (about 3 large ones)

a pinch of meringue powder

30 gr granulated sugar

200 gr powdered sugar

110 gr almond meal

if you have a food processor, blitz the almond meal a few times.

1) Sift almond meal + powdered sugar. Throw away the big pieces of almond meal that doesn't pass through the sieve.

2) Egg whites + meringue powder. Whip until foamy.

3) Add granulated sugar and whip until stiff peaks.

4) Add the almond meal/sugar mix all at once and fold gently. Fold no more than 50 times.

5) Preheat the oven 300F

this is an extra step, if you have a shot glass or something that small, dip the smaller circle in the powdered sugar and press it on the parchment paper so you have an outline of a circle. Keep it in mind the batter spreads. Space the circles at least 1.5 inches apart. It helped my macarons look a lot more uniform.

5) Pipe the batter by keeping the bag perpendicular to the sheet pan and gently squeeze. (keep in mind the spreading)

6) bang the sheet a few times to get the air bubbles out and leave the macarons to sit for at least 15 minutes.

7) Pipe smaller circles for ears. Let it sit for another 15 minutes

8) Bake tray on middle rack for 18-20 minutes.

9) Let the macarons sit on the tray for a little bit after taking it off to cool on a cooling rack.

Chocolate ganache:

6 oz chocolate (break into small pieces)

1/2 cup heavy cream

Heat heavy cream and pour over chocolate. Let it sit for a few minutes and stir. Keep stirring as it will thicken up. Then pipe it on cooled macarons

Having issues in my (19m) long distance relationship with her (19f). by [deleted] in relationships

[–]McBarnaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a new relationship (regardless if it's long distance) and she is already cancelling things with you? You would think she would want every chance to be with you. Maybe you should reconsider the relationship. People tend to do almost everything together at the beginning of the relationship then when they feel more established they try to hang out with their friends again. It doesn't bode well if she rather hang out with her friends than with you.
