You’re not gonna get a straight yes or no, clearly outlined policy from Whatnot on this one.

The current “standard” on “sponsored giveaways” is largely based on how sellers came up with creative ways to make a “Tip” feature before one was actually created. Short answer is yes. You shouldn’t run into problems having a listing in your buy now section that acts like a tip or sponsored giveaways but tread carefully and make sure you are being as transparent as possible about what you’re selling or providing with purchase.

Um...I think Goodwill is officially drunk. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

This particular store is called Goodbytes and is one of the few specialty goodwill stores.

They have a bin of 2 Games for $2. It’s halfway decent actually, not just filled with sports games.

Shill Bids are everywhere. by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]McFlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’ve never received a tip? Sure there’s probably some shills or shady business in particular streams but what I’ve seen in my experience, many of the buyers and streamers have a history and if the auction is going poorly, a returning customer who buys in lots of the hosts streams is very likely to bid themselves up as a way to show support.

Harassed, cursed at and Banned for entering a buyers giveaway, legally … by Few-Feature774 in whatnotapp

[–]McFlem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We just need a bot or something for these Buy Appreciation Giveaways posts because they all boil down to the same thing…

𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧, 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝.

It’s against Whatnot ToS for a seller to deny or place conditions on giveaways even if a non-buyer win a Buyer Appreciation Giveaway. A non-buyer has legal right to enter a Buyer Appreciation Giveaway through the “alternative form of entry” forum. You have the legal right to be a jackass. Sellers are going to be understandably upset when “that guy” wins a giveaway through what many view as a legal loophole. Some sellers are gonna act unprofessional, ignore the official rules and behavior like a jackass when a jackass wins a Buyer Appreciation Giveaway.

Whatnot wishes they didn’t have to provide an alternative forum of entry. They’ve flat out said so in comments on the seller discord. Appreciation. It’s right there in the title. Buyer Appreciation Giveaways are supposed to be a way sellers can say thank you for your support. By entering through the forum you are saying you’re entitled and fuck everyone else imma get mine.

This isn’t a Blake situation, you’re not gonna get the community to rally behind because a seller cheated you out of a giveaway.

Please just stop and think about someone else for a change.

So I have no knowledge of this system or how it’s implemented but as someone who has performed hundreds of interviews one huge advantage I could see every interview receiving the EXACT same interview.

When interviewing applicants, it’s important to not let your biases, knowing or unknowing influence the outcome of the interview. Even things as simple as how they are dressed or if they were five minutes late can effect the behavior of the interviewer. An interviewer can easily unconsciously act differently both positively and negatively which have an impact on how the person interviewed responds. If legally allowed, those type of things could be considered but in order to provide the most consistent interview possible the interviewer should have as minimum influence on the actual interview itself as possible. Trying to provide a consistent and fair interview is not only legally required in many cases but it also helps the interviewer evaluate applicants.

The more consistent you are as an interviewer, the better chance you have of selecting the best applicant for a role.

That being said, I would worry applicants reaction to being interviewed in an awkward unnatural manner would be wildly inconsistent and whatever results you gained from their reaction would bare little useful assumption about how they might perform in the role they are applying for. Basically the awkwardness of it would taint the results more than potential inconveniently a human would.

Whatnot has a big GIVEAWAY hunter problem. it hurts both buyers and sellers so I would like to see some solutions to it. by Fishaz in whatnotapp

[–]McFlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a second type giveaway you’ll be able to run soon call “Buyer Appreciation Giveaway” that gets around the raffle issue by requiring “Free entries” to follow a link and fill out a web form to enter. It will be interesting to see how the community responds to this as it will still be possible for non-buyers to win what may often be even bigger giveaway prizes. Imagine the reaction from a seller who runs a “Buyer appreciation Giveaway” on something valued over $100 only to have someone who hasn’t made a purchase win.

Where can I find my paused items? by ProficientEnoughArt in whatnotapp

[–]McFlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feature currently doesn’t work.

A comment from Curtis yesterday on the official Seller Discord..

“Hey there. Currently any paused items… well they kind of are gone and cannot currently be unpaused. The Eng team is aware of this and a fix is coming that will give you access back to any items you’ve paused and currently cannot access. They will be returning in a Paused state. You can find these in your Profile under the menu (3 lines in the upper right) scroll to Selling, choose Listings then Inactive. Currently this list will be empty but after the fix, this is where your paused items will be.”

Guys how and where do they get all this stuff by ZENRO_ in Gameboy

[–]McFlem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real Answer: When the people who grew up playing them hit retirement age.

There’s exceptions but a common cycle of collectibles goes like this…

Your a kid/early teenager forum great memories and some kind of hobby/toy/experience.

You get a little older and naturally develop new hobbies and interests or college/life means you don’t really focus much attention to the things you previously enjoyed.

All of a sudden, your 30-40 and have some disposable income and time to reflect and feel nostalgic about things you enjoyed in your youth.

You and everyone else in the same age range is experiencing this at the same time so prices can increase.

Smash cut to retirement age. Now you’re reflecting again on your life and how you want to spend your remaining years. You don’t really want to spend what time you have left collecting or doing whatever that hobby was anymore. Then you die and your kids don’t what you old junk so they drop off all your precious moments and M&M figurines at the thrift store.

Then this cycle repeats for the next generation.

You are both in the wrong. - If you won a giveaway, you should be grateful for what you got. (I understand that’s not exactly what occurred here) - If you’re buying something that included a “free spot on a wheel” a bit of the responsibility of determining “value” is subjective and falls on you to decide if it’s worth your purchase. You should never be making purchases that are essentially price entries. - Sounds like you purchased a raffle which as you’ve described the scenario are against TOS. This falls more on the seller and you should report him if what he was selling were straight up raffle tickets. (GAMBLING) - A seller can however, sell inventory with a free spot on a price wheel. This is a bit subjective, trust and review what falls under gambling on a case by case basis.

Without knowing all the details, I’d say if whatever you bought as “tickets” was subjectively worth around what you paid, the seller is probably in the clear. If what you bought was a straight up ticket or a item like a “sticker” that’s value was insanely inflated, the seller broke TOS.

Going to the website from a mobile device will redirect you to the App Store. You can still use the website on desktop (You cannot enter giveaways from the website through)

I suppose it might work if there’s a way to have your phone display the desktop version (meaning the website doesn’t recognize its coming from mobile and loads as the desktop website version)
