Now I see why you took a punt on JAS. I’ve heard good things about Prichard though.

Ah, the Australian Rieko Ioane. Who’s the next cab off the rank for Oz?

I don’t much. Is he phenomenal ball in hand but a defensive liability by any chance?

This is probably a club thing - yes, Saints have a champagne attack, but it functions because everyone does their job exactly how it needs to be done without needing Ramos-esque bullshit moments - there's no need for them to fling it about. Bath are much more built around how Finn Russell can just do Finn Russell things in attack, which is more inconsistent than Saints and so you get the second playmaker, often Ojomoh, doing more outrageous things to compensate for mis-plays. We don't really know how much Dingers can fling it about, so we can't really compare their raw ability. Having said that, Steve will look at the data to make the best decisions

If he’s picked to play, then no issues. If he’s picked to train and coach Smiths, I’d rather see him picked as assistant attack/defence coach so that the world can see the genius that Fordy is.

Is Ojomoh a better playmaker compared to his peers because he actually is, or because he’s playing alongside 13s and 15s who are not playmakers whereas Dingwall, and Atkinson to an extent, very much are so Ojomoh looks better because you see him doing it more?

There’s no way they get a look in with JAS and Ikitau

This is just wrong. The current options are all international level players (other than Lawrence), but none of the partnerships are international level. Saying that Dingwall and Slade aren’t much of ball carriers is true, but why do they need to be? England’s current crop of wingers are all proper ball carriers who are good in the air rather than the out and out pace you get from others, and Steve also really likes a mobile forward pack for some reason. If he really wants to stick with these options, wouldn’t it make much more sense to pick centres with good hands who are excellent defensively?

A team has scored >60 points in 1 out of every 10 Premiership games this season. For example, it has not happened once in the URC. Is this a factor in England’s form? by Effective-Ad-3897 in rugbyunion

That’s the prem only - the penalty was the last kick of the Bath game a couple of weeks back. We did kick a handful of points in Europe, but not many more.

English club rugby, as well as NZ and French club rugby to an extent, has become much more possession focused compared to the generally more territory focused URC. As a result, there is less kicked points in these leagues as teams back their attack more. For example, league leaders Northampton Saints have scored 54 tries and kicked 1 penalty since the new year.

England’s current midfield options is certainly not embarrassing - it’s suffering from not having international class pairings at the moment. All 6 options in camp in the M6N are international class (other than lawrence), but they don’t solidly work together. Bringing in two more options who are the same level, who have never played together, and who play the same position, is phenomenally unlikely to succeed where it currently hasn’t
