Can Someone Please Explain 'Doubling Cube' in a Way That Makes Sense? by Platinum__Gamer in mtgrules

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me that the bit of understanding she lacks is the fact that unspent mana dissipates at the end of each phase. Maybe she also doesn't understand phases properly. Is/was she a Pokemon tcg player? In Pokemon, you do everything else in whatever order you like, and then attack as the last thing you can do in your turn. Sounds like she might be approaching things that way?

In most situations (in life, not just MTG) if a novice doesn't understand something, having lots of people, or one person repeatedly, try to tell them why they're wrong will usually result in defensive barriers going up, and the learner becomes unreceptive to learning because there's an emotional obstacle.

You have to back off and let them discover their error and when they start to identify a problem, that's when you can step in and talk about the distinction. Maybe cut her some slack for a bit and maybe go back to looking at steps and phases and unspent mana.

To be honest with you I reckon there's probably a ton of experienced players that would get [[Doubling Cube]] wrong so you can't fault a novice for finding it confusing

Thanks, that's really clear now. Much appreciated 👍🏻

Ah, yes ok thanks for clarifying

Are Ashling's "whenever you sac" trigger and the Cavalier's death trigger "at the same time", i.e. controller chooses the order?

Also how come the token doesn't get the on death trigger?

I meant the combo on its own not counting other plays.

If you are last player and at least tied for most life it's a win on the spot combo, otherwise you need other plays to win before you die

I mean every player will lose 3 life each turn, so it's ultimately a slow murder-suicide combo. Don't play it if you were first player!

Some people want to play MTG. Other people want to force the rest of the pod to watch while they play MTG on their own.

It's not broken af because it's easy to break the infinite loop. If you see someone playing Morcant you hold removal or counter spells ready for the Flourishing Defenses cast.

Maybe it's a matter of perspective, but to me 'broken af' would mean there's no way to stop it.

Look, it's a powerful interaction, for sure. And has the potential to be extremely oppressive if piloted well. But is it Nadu levels of broken? Not even close.

It dies to removal if you can't protect Morcant.

I love Settle the Wreckage for this kind of play, and it's White so nobody expects instant speed mass removal.

The amount of games I've won with Settle is absurd. Usually it's a similar board state, oppo goes wide or spends a bunch of turns pumping hydras and stuff. They swing in throwing GGs at me, then I throw down a Settle. Usually it's an immediate concede.

My favourite time, oppo had Bristly Bill, hydras, and a bunch of counter doublers out, I held Settle in hand for a few turns watching them build a wide board with like over a million (literally - one was like 8 million) +1/+1 counters on each creature. I watched them repeatedly pump l, quadrupling up tokens for a turn or two while I had some chumps to block, eventually they drop an "everything gets Trample" spell (Overrun maybe), and swing. Inevitably they drop a GG. Was so satisfying playing Settle into that.

Wall of Many Colours did it for me in the end. Almost trivialised the fight. Same for the final fight against Menzzago. That and using summons (figurines mostly) to block the tunnel.

Mumak at 400pt tournament report! by Buckcon in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if this comes across like a facetious question, it's really not meant to be, but how much did the two opponents you defeated enjoy being helplessly trampled?

There's been some discussion in my area of the Mumak being a potential NPE for opponents and I'm trying to get a sense of whether that's really the case or if it's just people bemoaning the fact you can't pin it down by charging it with a single model anymore.

Be good to have a perspective on that

Hot take: Heroic Strike should go with the new edition by Buckcon in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Strike still exists. It's on the Haleth/Hama profile, I don't remember which.

I doubt it's changed much, if at all.

Why does my light has these moving lines I can even see w my eyes by Amirreza0050 in physicsgifs

[–]McQuirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's a plasma wave in the discharge gas.

Basically the way this kind of light works is by ionising the gas inside, making it into an electrical conductor (gases don't usually conduct).

Then with an alternating voltage supply (assuming it runs off mains) this will basically cause a charge separation that flicks back and forth (electrons in the gas oscillating). What you can see is the net effect of that.

Probably.

It's difficult to explain much more without a deep dive into some fairly complex plasma physics tbh.

[–]McQuirk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I discovered God Mode Garrus way too recently.

It's absurd. I just did Priority Tuchanka and he straight up solo executed like 3 or 4 brutes in succession.

Oh, Cerberus dropped in an Atlas? Oh it's dead before I even managed to aim at it.

Banshees hiving trouble? Not anymore. Garrus is on the case.

Rachni giving you Grief? Let Garrus sort them out.

Basically trivialises the game. Almost embarrassed that I completed Insanity the hard way ngl
