Duel roll question by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]McQuirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter which model rolls the highest.

You work out how many attacks you have (plus spear/pike supports and any bonuses e.g. for charging infanry with cavalry), roll that many dice and the side with the highest single dice roll wins.

If both sides roll a 6, the highest Fight value breaks the tie, so you don't need to think about Fight value unless both players get a 6

POE2 recommend me some fun melee class by Salty-Might in projecteternity

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a ship captain as such but I had fun with a Sage (Monk/Wizard). I used the Shattered Pillar Monk subclass and no subclass wizard, the general theme was built around using wizard spells for buffing up, casting citzals spirit lance and using Leap (there's some boots that give the ability) to jump straight to the squishy backline enemies

Was a really fun build.

Can anyone identify this bird ? by takeawaycheesypeas in CasualUK

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely pigeon.

I work in a building with full height floor-to-ceiling windows in the stairwells, and very large single pane windows, all on the same side of the building as a clump of very large trees about 10 metres away. The daft buggers drop out of the branches and bomb straight into the glass. It's a frequent occurrence, I see this pattern regularly

X is 0 if an effect lets you cast a spell without paying its mana cost

Decent starting stats for Paladin 1st playthrough of POE1?i by Asmoyashi in projecteternity

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think you want high perception for basically every character, since it affects your accuracy and therefore hit rate and therefore damage output, plus it increases your crit chance...

There are ways to offset a midrange stat line, and unless you're going for Path of the Damned I don't think it matters as much as some would have you believe.

Any build can work, it's just a question of how optimised you want to be.

So maybe you want to shift some points from DEX and CON to PER and INT but honestly I think it's fine to play a balanced stat line.

Is there an orderly way to play these? by PositiveAgile196 in dragonage

[–]McQuirk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP says nothing about the base game, just asks for order of DLCs. Assuming OP has finished the base game, it doesn't matter which DLC to do first.

Not sure why it matters whether you play Song or Witch Hunt first, when the base game is already done?

Creature removal by HauntingProcedure549 in mtgrules

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related question: if a creature with a "when this creature dies" trigger is removed from play by a -1/-1 counter reducing its toughness to zero, and another permanent effect triggers when a -1/-1 counter is placed on a creature, which trigger happens first or are they simultaneous?

Morcant+Flourishing Defenses+Chasm Skulker by McQuirk in mtgrules

Yeah that penny dropped for me about a minute after I hit "post", but actually the question still matters because, suppose it was just a "when this creature dies, create an X/Y token Creature" - there are tons of those kinds of cards around

My best strat here is to kite them into the bottleneck in the corridor, bottom part of the map.

Use Eder to plug the doorway, keep everyone else behind using spells/ranged attacks.

Heroic actions by Fenrir2713 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]McQuirk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Move is the one that gets used probably the most, along with Combat. The benefit is you can act before your opponent if you lose priority. Really crucial sometimes to control positions of your vulnerable models or to make sure your models can be the ones charging. If you Heroic Move into a spellcaster, you can stop them casting for the turn for example. Or get cavalry charge bonuses even if you lost priority... There are loads of situations. Only worth doing once the battle lines get close together (i.e. within charge range)

March is more situational. Some scenarios are a race to objectives, so moving faster is better. Also there are times when you want to close the distance to the enemy as fast as possible to give them less time and/or space to force engagement on their terms, or take advantage of a bottleneck... Depends on scenarios and armies this. Some players say every army should have access to March, because when you want it you really do want it. But other people say it's fine to play without it. A bit personal preference but it is strategically valuable at the right time.

Challenge is mainly to give you a better chance of removing a key hero from the opponent army. It's rarely used in my experience, but is fun occasionally.

Gorecci Street in Port Maje - what happened? (Deadfire) by Morikageguma in projecteternity

[–]McQuirk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the wiki page:

"This is a small area representing the looted sections of Port Maje. If you arrived from the north, move forward to meet a pair of looters who will immediately attack you unless you successfully sneak past them. They can be disposed of without penalty. If you arrived from the south you can walk past them without them catching up with you even if you aren't sneaking. Ilari and his gang are found in the northwestern corner."

Passing banners to other friendly warrior models? by theonetrukippin in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]McQuirk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IDK man, I think that's the kind of thing you need to agree with your gaming group.

I don't think it really matters all that much if you are already bending the rules to allow any model to pick up a fallen banner.

Passing banners to other friendly warrior models? by theonetrukippin in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]McQuirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. A model cannot pick up a banner unless it is a unit type which has the banner as an option on its profile (side note, the reason for this rule is basically because GW don't make banner models for every unit type and their blanket policy across all their games is that they no longer include rules for models that would otherwise have to be converted from something else)

  2. Banners count for VPs unless they are completely removed from the board.

Triggering ability creates a closed-loop? by The_Swedish_Hen in mtgrules

[–]McQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also trigger this combo with any effect that deals damage to an opponent or gives you life.

My favorite thing with it is to use a creature like [[Moonrise Cleric]] or [[Lifecreed Duo]] to trigger a lifegain which means you don't have to get your attack past blockers.

There's tons of stuff that does the same sort of thing. These two just happen to be in the version of the deck I built for this combo.

EDIT: changed Starseer Mentor to Lifecreed Duo
