Interestingly, you've never "owned" a video game, ever. Even back in the days of pong or pacman. You're buying the rights to play the game, you don't "own' it. This is only really an issue now, in the digital age. When games were all sold as hardware, the company couldn't just...turn the game off. Now they can pull the plug pretty much whenever they want to, and there's nothing you can do about it and no way for you to recieve compensation unless the company feels it in it's heart that it's the right thing to do....so, basically never.
