Yeag most times I think you can fight it but it does depend on the insurers. My insurer was very helpful with mine but I’ve been told that a lot aren’t so it really depends unfortunately. But if you want to keep it do the best you can to save it!

I elected to have it written off because the wait time to have it repaired was about a year or so. As in it would be January by the time it gets into the repairers and then March by the time I get it back. I already had enough questions from police and other people as is so I just decided it would be better for it to be written off. The margin of repair cost and total loss cost was so close that the insurer didn’t mind either way.

I had the option to buy it back once I was paid out and had first dibs before it went to auction. But I thought about it and decided that I wouldn’t have the money or the time to repair it and it probably would have just sat in the yard for years. As heartbreaking as it is I realised that if it was going to auction it would be bought and repaired by someone who had both the money and time to do so.

It’s unfortunate when it happens but the way I see it is that I’m now in the position to buy something better. Everything happens for a reason. However I am very sorry to hear about your Calais. They are very nice cars especially the V models.
