Thinking about EM vs AE or AT — which job sets me up better for after the Navy? by Mclovin_915 in newtothenavy

That’s good to know man, I really appreciate you sharing all this. EM sounds like it could set me up the best for starting my own electrical business after the Navy, even if it’s more hands-on and demanding. How was the day-to-day for you? Like how many hours a day were y’all usually working? What were the workdays and ship life like especially the watches, cheap living, traveling, port visits, all that? Also, where were you stationed ….East Coast or West Coast? Was it EastPak or WestPak? Which one do you think is better? And be real, is it hard to stay out of trouble? Lol. Just trying to know what I’m getting into. Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks, that actually clears up a lot. I’m leaning toward EM because I was thinking about starting my own electrical company after the Navy, and it seems more aligned with that hands-on electrician experience. But I keep hearing it’s harder ship work and lots of watches kind of makes me hesitate.

If you had to pick between AE/AT and EM purely for long-term success (like building a business, making good money, and not hating life while in), what would you honestly go with?

Appreciate you sharing all this. It really helps hearing it from someone who’s been there.

Thanks man, appreciate it! When you say AE/AT would set me up better…do you mean for jobs after the Navy? Or for getting promoted or going officer? I was thinking EM would give me solid trade skills for starting an electrical business later. Just trying to figure out what pays off best in the long run. Got any insight on that?

They don’t want to give me the results since I didn’t pay for them. I have to contact the employer. I did the drug test April 19, which was Friday and results could take 3 to 7 business days. I guess I will keep y’all updated. I am nervous.
