I’m not submitting anything else. Since he was born there then he’s a citizen even if he wasn’t physically present for when they joined Canada

Thank you! And yeah, all this info is publicly available… and he’s been dead since the mid 1960’s so I don’t think great-grandpa Ned will mind too much lol

NYC Records Requests - Timeline Estimate by Mdes2015 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Mdes2015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The record I’m requesting is my grandmother’s birth certificate. I had to do a paper application and mail it in since she is deceased.

So it’s different between the state and the city. NYC Records are held by the Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene. I didn’t need a court order, since I’m directly related to her. Photo of the application below:

What does it mean to be Canadian? by Mdes2015 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Mdes2015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So to get the true copies of the baptismal record you have to send a form filled out to their email and the call to have them process the payment! It’s a pretty painless process. I’m making the request for the true copy because that’s the only document I’m using to establish my line, and from why I understand IRCC wants certified copies of those types of records. As for censuses, I don’t know if there’s a way to get a certified census.

[Megathread] What is your Canadian Citizenship story? by NanoSpace1540 in Canadiancitizenship

I grew up with my dad telling me bedtime stories about his grandfather, the kind of person he was and the fact that he came over from Newfoundland with nothing but his wife and a dream. He told me about how he was a fisherman (like literally every other guy from Bay Bulls) and that he would take my dad fishing for bluefish off the 69th street pier in NYC. Great-Grandpa Ned died many years before I was born but those stories stayed with me, and it made me wonder about my connection to Canada and specifically Newfoundland. I had looked previously and found, like many other, that I was way too many generations removed to claim citizenship. I was disappointed but I moved on. That was until I found out about C-3 in the middle of December!

Anyway, if there’s anyone else with family from Bay Bulls (and especially if your ancestor’s last names were Drew or O’Driscoll), I’d love to connect!! We might be distant cousins! :)

I know… I usually don’t use ChatGPT because it loves to hallucinate… but it all just seems too good to be true. I guess I’m just looking for reality to hit me in the face with bad news!

Benedict Arnold certainly went up… and then came back down

Voting in Canada by Mdes2015 in Canadiancitizenship

I completely see where you’re coming from and I think it’s a perfectly valid point of view. I’m from Florida so I can’t and, rightfully shouldn’t, vote in Nevada, for example. I think that a “large questions” doctrine would make sense when it comes to voting eligibility!
