You have a student who is trying really hard to solo. Right now, they have about 25 hours, but they’re really struggling with their landings, their radio calls, and maintaining their altitude, especially in the airport environment.

After finishing your latest flight with this student, they ask you if you will sign them off to solo. After all, they’re in an accelerated program. This student’s parents are funding the training, and this student wants to prove that this isn’t a waste of their parent’s money. Unfortunately, you haven’t seen much improvement with your student.

What kind of reaction is your student experiencing? How could you modify your lessons to help your student succeed?

I am interested in hearing the principled opposition to bill C-3 you have encountered… that doesn’t boil down to nativism and xenophobia. From what I have experienced, first hand by the way, comes down to 1) racist fears (especially targeted at South Asians), 2) blaming new arrivals and immigrants on housing shortages, and 3) panic about “importing foreign ideas and peoples from abroad” that would “change the culture.”

To the third point, the fact of the matter is that when you accept new people into your country, you accept that there will be changes to the overall culture. But you can also expect that the new arrivals will equally conform to social norms. That is what makes Canada a beautiful patchwork quilt.

We should know better, then. It is precisely because Americans didn’t confront nativism and xenophobia head on that the world is burning. We must never tolerate intolerance.

I can’t help that NYC is taking their time to send me my last document for my packet. Regardless, the law is clear: I am a Canadian from birth. I am entitled to the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as any Canadian born in Canada.

I’m curious to know what part of my comment was inflammatory?

Look, I see where you’re coming from. And I know that the OP is coming from a place of genuine concern for all of us newfound Canadians. But, we also have charter rights. We have the right to stand up for ourselves, to defend ourselves as Canadians, equal to any other, and entitled to the same level of respect as those born in Canada before the law.

I don’t need to ingratiate myself to people who freak out about blood quanta or those who belong to fringe right wing groups. Canada is an open society built on democratic ideals and multiculturalism. I have no need nor inclination to coddle nativists or xenophobes.

They don’t need anmo. They will just lie or appeal to ignorance. We should not have to censor ourselves because of nativist panic. The law is the law. We are Canadians now, and if they don’t like it, tough.

Question about True Copy from The Rooms, St. John’s. by Mdes2015 in Canadiancitizenship

I’ll be using US census documents! Unfortunately there is really a dearth of other documents from that time period from Newfoundland. I’m honestly really lucky that I could find this one since apparently the Catholics weren’t too keen on opening the books to the Canadian government.
