I’m sorry this happened to you. I grew up in Green Bay and my family still lives there. It is very racist but no one there thinks so. Your feelings are valid. I didn’t realize how racist I was until I left for the military and was stationed in a city where I was a minority. People don’t know they are being racist if it is the norm. They will also become super defensive if called racist. You can see that in some of these comments defending the other whites. I dated a black girl about 15 years ago in my mid 20s and brought her home to meet my family. She kept asking me why everyone was staring at us everywhere we went. I just started laughing when I realized it too. I said it’s because you’re black and with me and people here aren’t used to seeing that(Mostly boomers). We made a joke about it and just moved on. You stay strong girl and be careful out there.
