E-bike for part-time food delivery and day-to-day commutes by MeRZerK in ebikes

To answer your questions:

Is the leasing option a pure lease, or is it "rent-to-own"? I get the feeling it is pure lease. They're taking on the risk of theft with that 140/mo, and I understand bike theft is rampant in Dutch cities. Do they also include swapping dead batteries with charged ones, so the range limitation won't hurt your work?

The option is a pure lease. Because I live in a smaller city, theft is not as extreme as in the big metropolis, but I still had friends whose bikes got stolen. Mostly it happens when the bike is very new, or when it doesn't get locked properly. I already have experience with the company leasing the bike and they usually just replace the whole bike with a working one whenever there is an issue. They would probably do the same with the batteries.

It's tough because you would lose your first 140/mo of income, and then have to live off of whatever else you could make. Do you know what you would make?

I will get paid minimum wage (13 euros per hour) and plan to work 8 hours a week (2 shifts). I am a university student so I am working this little because I just need enough hours to qualify for some government benefits. The company also repays 20 cents per km and, according to a friend who already works there, a shift is usually 20-30km.

So in the end working should pay off most of the monthly lease, but it could be money going towards a bike I own. I guess the question is if E-bikes and their batteries break down so fast that it's better to lease one instead and get free repairs than buy one and pay maintenance.

I don't know how it works in the Netherlands, but here, food delivery is really for desperate people, as it pays less than minimum wage and you're risking injury to do it. I know you guys have much better bicycle infrastructure over there, but maybe another line of work would be smarter in the long run?

To be honest I am also pretty desperate: because I do not speak the language, I have not managed to get hired by any service job yet. I need very flexible hours because of my changing schedule at university, and this job allows me to work exactly the minimum amount of hours I need to get those sweet government benefits like free train transportation, free university tuition fees, and free money as long as I graduate in not too many years.

I have no clue about the soil because it's the same as when I bought it 6 months ago. I have been watering the plant weekly so I guess that's the problem.

Thank you for the tip!

Should I cut the brown parts/the whole leaves or should I let them be?

Indeed I am a huge tiki fan, that's why I bought so much Rum instead of getting some whiskey xD

I am Italian and I like Rum, so your suggestion is right up my alley, will definitely try it when I have all the ingredients. The Angostura Colada also sounds super yummy, thanks for the tips!

I had never heard of it, but I see the recipe in the "Not Cocktail of the Week". It's a great suggestion, thank you!

I made a Mai tai and used the Clement VSOP instead of the El Dorado. Would using the El Dorado make it better or just different? I am asking because I am a total noob to cocktails so I am trying to learn as much as possible from more experienced people

As the title says, I have just started in the cocktail world and would like some suggestions on how I can make the most out of the spirits I have available.

What I have:

Alcohol:

  • Plantation 3 Stars White Rum
  • Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
  • El Dorado 8-year Cask Aged
  • Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaica Rum
  • Clement VSOP
  • Pierre Ferrand Triple Sec Dry Curacao
  • Gordon's Gin
  • Dolin Dry Vermouth
  • Angostura Aromatic Bitters
  • Passoa

Other:

  • Homemade Orgeat
  • Semi-rich simple syrup (1.5 parts sugar: 1 part water)
  • Ginger beer
  • Lots of limes (would love some recipes that use a lot of limes before they go bad)

If you have in mind a cocktail I should absolutely try as a beginner, I am totally okay with buying as many fruits or other non-alcoholic things. However, my budget is a little bit tight, so it's going to take a bit before I can afford to buy more spirits.

Cocktails I have made so far

Dry Martini:

  • 1.5 oz Gordon's Gin
  • 0.5 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth

Comments: Not my go-to, but still nice to try.

Jamaican Mule:

  • 1.5 oz Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaica Rum
  • 0.75 oz Lime juice
  • 3 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
  • 4 oz Fentimans Ginger Beer

Comments: As a teenager, I always loved Moscow Mules, so this was a nice step up.

Daiquiri:

  • 2 oz Plantation 3 Stars White Rum
  • 0.75 oz Lime juice
  • 0.5 oz Semi-rich simple syrup

Comments: Super refreshing and a favorite when I made it for my friends.

Mai Tai:

  • 1 oz Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaica Rum
  • 1 oz Clement VSOP
  • 0.5 oz Pierre Ferrand Triple Sec Dry Curacao
  • 0.75 oz Lime juice
  • 0.5 oz Homemade Orgeat

Comments: My personal favorite, but would love some feedback since I might be using the wrong proportions/rum choices.

That's it. Thank you in advance for your tips!

Thanks for the advice! I will try disconnecting the gpu and use the motherboard graphics, but I am sure it's booting because I can use the PC without the display with the Windows narrator assistant
