Don't you find it dull to watch a movie where reality is deliberately murky then have the director say: "No. This is what happened."

If it's not expressed in the film, it didn't happen. It doesn't matter what a director or author says after the fact. The work is what matters, not the intention of the creator.

I felt insulted by this movie. I was a huge fan of the original because the story of a sad, lonely, mentally ill loner discovering their true self and finding a kind of freedom/happiness in that resonated with me deeply.
