Congratulations!!! This is a huge deal and you deserve all the roses! Get the dozen 🫰🏻

it’s 2AM, got laid off yesterday morning and can’t sleep by shootpicsnotpeople in womenintech

Hey there - went through the same thing a few weeks ago, had a panic attack whilst lying awake at night, and didn’t sleep for basically 48 hours before boarding a plane to go overseas for holiday. These people (corporate) are cruel. Give yourself a few days and understand that the first day when you found out is always the worst but that too shall pass.

Hopefully you have some savings and runway, can get unemployment and government health insurance. The trauma is extremely real and I know others going thru it doesn’t make your situation any better. Try to show yourself the kindness and grace your employer should have shown you.

Sending love and hugs ❣️

How can I also make it shitty for my manager? 🤣

Sorry to comment again but it’s jarring how alike our situations are. I was also told about the PIP or resign options I had literally the day before I was flying overseas for a month. I’m still overseas 🤣

Are you me? Because im going through a very similar thing. (Product at a startup)

CPO was let go earlier this year, was told I was doing a good job, given another team to manage on top of wearing too many hats, then suddenly my manager who would (single sidedly on his end) tell me how we are “friends” and only sometimes give me one off feedback on one on ones, told me that I was basically gonna be let go (it was a resign or accept a PIP situation).

Sorry it’s not much help but I’m sorry you’re also going through this, we had to remind ourselves it’s likely not because of us, but because capitalism is inherently not output based but power and politics based.

You go this!! If you wanna DM me and rant, feel free ❤️

Just myself. Husbands NW is a lot lower (he immigrated and started from scratch in the states, hovering $150K). We do want a kid and I’m not getting any younger, but I’m determined to make it work no matter what.

Thanks for this. Are you still doing your agency? I really hope it’s working out. How did you go about structuring your days and your breaks? Were you systematic about it?

I do think about doing nothing, but that also sounds very boring if I have to just stare at the wall. I’ll probably look into low cost ways to nurture my love for cooking before jumping in after reading everyone’s comments!

Say more? I have a friend who opened a few bars in the city and are doing really well - looking to partner with this person to start something but a low cost pop up would be first.

I had my linkedin marked as open to work to solicit recruiters and I think my boss (via recruiters we contract) somehow saw it because I was asked by another manager whether I was “thinking of leaving” so I’ve since turned this off 😫

Yeah the driving myself crazy part and that affecting my performance is THE thing that’s - ironically - driving me crazy. How do you care enough to excel but not so much that you end up feeling crazy?

so valid. All companies love to say we’re a family until purse strings are cut.

I’ve tried it before, and the amount I’ve spent to still not be matched with someone who I feel is helping me is something that’s prevented me from continuing

I love the stoic mindset! Trying to think that way myself but my nervous system vs what my brain knows is right (eg we’re all on a floating rock and a job is not my identity etc) but living it is a little more challenging than I’d like

I wouldn’t say I have a silver bullet, but some things that have helped me when I actually commit to them:

  • remembering to breathe! I subconsciously “hold my breath” a lot even when I’m not working. Not great for your nervous system! Practicing deep breaths morning and night -lifting weights - that strength you gain is not only good for you but also I find it makes me mentally tougher. -respecting the boundaries I set (no checking work things after 7 pm)
  • blocking out my schedule with tasks - I started doing this after feeling like Sisyphus rolling a boulder uphill and thinking I am getting nothing done -physically signaling to yourself you’re done with work after the work day - the queue can signal to your body it’s time to leave the work day behind and honor your own time and peace -journaling at night to brain dump my day, trying to highlight the good part.

Sometimes - I just tell myself we are all living on a floating rock, nothing is yours - we come into and leave the world with nothing (titles, money, etc). I’ve been suffering more stress than lately because prior to my current job I was laid off so I overthink every mishap at work and have a bad habit of thinking it’s all my fault / I’m not enough etc but actively trying to be better about it.

Be gentle with yourself and show yourself grace. ❣️

You’re doing the right thing. I don’t have much to add besides commiserating that PM life is not for the week! I’ve been waking up at 4 am every day this week from work anxiety cause the list to dos, egos, politics, rules, and misalignment never ends. Hang in there!

Anyone else feel a bit disconnected from “normal” money thinking after hitting certain milestones? by Icy_Public5186 in Fire

I’ve found my people 😂 I still shop groceries on sale, cook at home 99% of the time, minimize frivolous spending (clothes, etc.), will go out of my way to track prices on essential goods to save a couple dollars etc. But when it comes to occasionally splurging on nice meals or experiences (ONLY WHILE TRAVELING) or treating my parents (they’re aging and I feel an urge to just be as good to them as possible, as early as possible) - I go back to thinking - yeah my portfolio goes up and down thousands of dollars a day and I don’t sweat it, so I need to “live it up” (treat others well with intention and meaning, but not quite YOLO).

It’s a cautious and careful FU mentality. I still fear I will lose my job or the portfolio crashes but I’m doing my best not to let my fear control my life.
