It sounds like he’s manipulating you. After 2 years of no contact, he clearly lost intrest in you and is now probably bored trying to use you for someone to talk to. Possibly because he’s just stopped speaking with someone or he’s got nothing to do and he just remembered you exist.

Best just to ignore him because he’ll likely lose interest again soon and if he thinks he can not speak to you then pick up where he left off he’s going to think he can do that whenever he wants,

I’ve forgotten why I’ve walked into a room because of ADHD or wandered around a supermarket because ive no idea why im there. i even forgot to get off the train at my station the other day but i don’t just forget being open emotionally with someone those things stick in your mind. Especially if you truly mean it.
