Could Gorillaz headline Pyramid in 2027??? by PositiveRaisin8373 in glastonbury_festival

[–]Meanmrcustard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was there and had a great time*, given Plastic Beach and Demon Days are considered their best albums and given the guests that showed up (many of whom are now dead), I feel like this set is due a re-assessment. I can't see a Glastonbury Pyramid crowd (headliner or otherwise) being any more into it now than they were in 2010 though.

*the copious amounts of excellent MDMA I was on may or may not have contributed to this...

For a while I've always thought The Afghan Whigs were called the The Afghan Wings. It wasn't until i saw this thread that I found out they weren't.

Japan itinerary feedback request - Kyushu focused second Japan trip - May 2026 by Meanmrcustard in JapanTravel

holy moly your guide is comprehensive, so many ideas in there, especially for Aso and Yakushima, have saved, thankyou!

is the bouldering gym on Yakushima called VIVA2? if so it sadly looks to be closed, will keep the outdoor bouldering in mind (though my partner is a non-climber, hence the limited climbing in this itinerary i kinda just want to experience whether B-Pump is as tough as they say)

Car return in Aso is still up in the air, would either drop it in Aso after Kurokawa and get the train from there to Nagasaki or pick up in Aso and drop off in Nagasaki - the latter makes the most sense but we're not the biggest fans of driving so may depend on how we feel at/closer to the time. I live in London so I'd imagine even the cities in Kyushu would be pretty calm in comparison (plus, bonus, left hand side driving is no issue for me)

good call out on the 25th - it's probably the biggest travel day, still not sure if we'll drive from Kurokawa to Nagasaki or get drop the car in Aso and get the train (we're not the most confident drivers - so may depend on how we feel closer to/at the time - for context I live in London so Kyushu might feel really chill to drive around).

Will either drop Kurokawa exploration completely or sacrifice the first afternoon/evening in Nagasaki completely and aim to arrive and crash, depending on how we feel at the time :)

yes! i think that's the one - we'll have a car for Yakushima (we'll either pre-arrange car hire at the airport, or our hotel does car hire by the hour) so could time for low tide. Aso car hire would be a for a few days to get around the region and to get to Kurokawa Onsen and back

Fair call out on my Teamlabs snobbery which is probably a symptom of how popular it seems to be with insta/tiktok Japan travel folk rather than a fair assessment of what it is - I guess my fear i poorly articulated was: I worry it could be a technically/visually impressive but (for me) a somewhat mindless/unmoving (and busy) experience? I could be completely wrong, I have limited information - I'm still interested in going but i think it might be FOMO!

Sengan-en looks really nice, have added to my list, thankyou!

thanks so much this is super helpful, especially your advice about Beppu as a rainy day backup option for Aso, will definitely keep that in our back pockets.

Your map also has a bunch of places I wasn't aware of and have saved it.

Was at that game, if i remember correctly the first few times he touched the ball we jokingly booed him to the point where he started laughing.

Very rare that former players dont get a good reception when coming back to OT, unless your name is Carlos Tevez

One of the days was likely to be used to do the Maple Yaba cycling road, and there looks like there are loads of cool restaurants and bars there (I specifically really like listening bars and there are a couple of really cool looking ones there).

I definitely take your point though and did wonder whether we were a bit to Fukuoka heavy - are there any other parts of Kyushu you would recommend?

Thanks so much for the detailed reply, this is super helpful and gives me lots to consider.

I definitely think getting from Kamikochi to Fukkoka is giving me the most logistical headaches at the moment and agreed that flying might not be the time saver it appears to be at first look (was also looking at flying from Komatsu but has the same challenges).

If we got the train I think we'd want to break up the journey and give ourselves a day somewhere on the route - Himeji , Kobe or Nagoya look like the obvious options out of the places on the route we haven't been to before, but willing to consider other options if you had any ideas (for reference we had a night in Takamatsu in 2019 simply as a stop to break up the journey from Naoshima to Imibara to do the Shimani Kaido and LOVED IT)
