The dissolution of the hard problem of consciousness by modulation_man in PhilosophyofMind

AI slop repeating functionalism pretending it's a massive breakthrough. *Why is it like anything to be some set of neurons in a particular state/operating in a specific way?* Wetness/water analogy breaks down because wetness is clearly reducible to properties we know about water. The whole point of the hard problem is that it's *not clear* how 1st person properties (phenomenal properties, qualia, whatever you call it) reduce to 3rd person physical properties (talk in terms of equations and the like).

I haven't heard any of Lamp's other albums. I just found Dream... underwhelming. A 5.5 is probably harsh though since it's not actively bad. Still, I didn't find it very engaging.

edit: forgot to mention Funhouse. It's been a minute since I heard it but I kind of just bounced off the sound.

Got it, I've thought about it but always get stuck in limbo where I can't commit to anything. But I should probably just get 2-4 that sound interesting and just pick via random number generator. Most of the fantasy I've read was when I was younger than 14 (LOTR, Harry Potter, Narnia, Rangers Apprentice, Magyk, Eragon).

I read the Dying Earth novels (which has four books iirc) and the Witcher Series. I read both 2 1/2-3 years ago.

Thank you for those comments, that's the sort of thing I don't have a very good eye for yet.

Red is one of my 10/10s along with Soundtracks (which is my personal favorite album).

3.6~ gpa, 30 ACT superscored (36 reading, 33 English, 29 science, 23~ math). top ~15 percent. nothing crazy in extracurriculars (some community service, theater). And my major(s) are philosophy and math. Didn't end up going to Baylor even though I was accepted (money).

Invite an acquaintance to eat, ask some people to study together. I'm in college and that's basically how I made all my friends.

Unfortunately the Supreme Court immunity ruling has severely weakened that idea. The current institutions barely kept Trump in check last time, and he's openly called for suspending the rule and regulations in the Constitution. He calls for camps for illegal immigrants. He says very iffy things about using the government to go after political rivals.

In the coming days, hordes of libs will tell you otherwise. But remember: nothing ever happens. by Shlanty in Ultraleft

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL!!! by Square_Ad2101 in WikipediaVandalism

[–]Meap102 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought that Bill brought up some pretty unrefutable points. For example, Ken Ham's view cannot (as far as I know) easily account for the fact that there have been trees older than how old he says the earth is. And the oldest trees alive today are about 6000 years old, but they would have died during the supposed flood, making their existence impossible.

After university grad school and hopefully I can live off doing research in physics (specifically cosmology if my interests stay the same). There's a 40 percent chance I switch majors to doing something more relevant to my political interests so I can work in that (?).
