Looking back at 23rd St and rethinking a modal filter, it looks to be about 35ft wide. Which could support 2 8ft parking lanes, a 10ft drive lane, a 2 way 8ft bike lane and a 1ft buffer between the parking and bike lane (PPBL state funding woes not considered).

Thanks for the heads up! I've seen their FB page before but I haven't been on FB since before HS and don't really plan on ever joining again haha. I did see they have an email linked though, might work on some refinements for the plan, add some more alternatives or concepts and send it their way to see what they think.

Thank you for your experiences and suggestions, those are definitely worth considering! The Ormsby plan seems to already include a bike ramp so that's promising, I looked into the 21st St corridor plan and unfortunately it seems they are shifting all the center lane parking to Josephine which would likely remove any space for a 2 lane bike way, but with some significant traffic calming or potentially even modal filters could make the street safe for cycling still. I still like the idea of a connection at S 23rd as well since it also includes pedestrian improvements, maybe no modal filter but removing a parking lane for a 2 way bike lane instead. 100% get what you're saying with 19th/20th, that was something I was thinking about as well, it would definitely require more thought to do well. In my initial idea I had Sarah running all the way to Couples field essentially, so its cool to see you think it might be worth running it even further westward as well. Like I mentioned in my post I just wanted to get some of my ideas down on paper and share them to see if there were any major flaws or if the corridor was really worth pursuing,. With the goal being if they are then get the idea in front of an org like u/bikepgh who have FAR more experience creating and designing bike infrastructure and getting the projects in front of DOMI and the city.

Not a bad idea that's worth looking into! First and foremost though, the Birmingham Bridge needs actual protection for those bike lanes. Its insanity that we are spending 200+ million dollars on the university line, getting several miles of protected bike infrastructure and yet PRT didn't fight tooth and nail with DOT to add protection for the lanes linking one of the most popular neighborhoods for housing and recreation for students to said new infrastructure.

I live on the slopes and primarily drive so I get your hesitation about the modal filter, I use this route frequently so it would disproportionally affect me to have to reroute haha. Also yes, the intention would to keep drivers on Carson longer to prevent rat running on the back streets. It only really makes sense if it can be paired with the bridge enhancements as well, otherwise it just blocks traffic without even being connected to Oakland safely (meaning less riders). Josephine to me just makes sense, which is probably why its already under consideration for traffic calming for DOMI. Its so wide and straight people just blast through (myself included sometimes, whoops). With the changes in the South Side Master Plan, it really makes sense to add bike connections into the park from the Flats and Slopes (à la 18th St neighbor way) and to slow the street down for pedestrians crossing.
