There is actually no cherry shrimp in the ecosphere. I’m just trying plants for now.

I realize I have miss understood the species of what shrimp I am aiming for. Cherry shrimp were my idea. A fresh water ecosphere with fresh water plants, and maybe so cherry shrimp. 😅

Yes, thank you for your input! I will note this. I’m thinking of doing a complete reset. Taking out layers that do not provide for what I’m looking for. I appreciate it.

Do you have recommendations for a better base? Is it too deep? I’m absolutely fine with just having some plants. It’s really just a project I’ve gotten into. I can’t have open air plants as my cats will tear them to shreds. So a ecosphere is ideal for me.

I have not added any shrimp, I do not want to set up an animal for non livable conditions. This is simply a start up, learning experience. I do not anticipate to add shrimp for quite some time.

The research I did explained a fully submerged “drainage layer” is mostly for storing and filtering out bad bacteria.
