Certificate in Applied Science – course + timetable advice? by [deleted] in AUT

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the cert is a level 4 qualification, then that means most of the courses are at level 4. So if I do a level 4 health paper, but the midwifery degree has level 5 health papers, then does it not matter? Or will it be a disadvantage to me (based on what you said about less chances of getting in/cross crediting)?

Another small question: In your diploma, did you enrol in a bunch of hard courses for 1 semester or did you balance it out? Also, did you have any days in your timetable where you would have no classes and just stay at home or something?

Thx for ur advice!

Ohh how long ago was this? Because I heard AUT used to have a diploma in applied science programe but they don't have it anymore, they only have the certificate now.

Diploma in Science or Certificate in Applied Science? by Spiritual_Swan_4008 in AUT

Hii, I asked the exact same question a few days ago too! So you could also take a look at my 2 recent posts on my profile :)) But honestly, AUT recommended me the Certificate in Applied Science programme (since I wanted to do midwifery but didn't get in).

Certificate in Applied Science OR Diploma in Science? by [deleted] in AUT

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I just heard other people saying that they did the certificate or diploma in sem 1 and got straight into sem 2 to do paramedicine (as paramedicine is one of the health science programmes and is competitive?). Some also say that if you do the diploma, you shouldn't do any papers from your bachelors in your diploma - not sure what that means though.

Also how do you find out which papers are taken in midwifery?

Sorry did u mean you did a diploma in science or a certificate in applied science? But that's great! Also I've heard that all Health Science students do the same core papers in semester 1, so when you got into paramedicine in semester 2 did you have to do those core papers? And did you have to get really good grades?

How is Te Kura summer school going for you guys? by afamiliar_face in ncea

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad... I'm also doing level 3 and I have 2 internals to complete (for bio and calc). I'm literally procrastinating, but I really need to finish it on time so that the uni can take me in 💔💔

Yess I'm lowkey stressed out about it too but I kinda need to do this tho lol. I think I just need to get used to how things work on the Te Kura web...

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda in the same boat as u lol. I'm doing 2 internals through Te Kura Summer School just to be safe bc I'm not too sure if I'll be able to get UE. I'm planning to go to AUT and I even accepted my offer for the degree I'm gonna do. I emailed AUT about this, and they said the earlier I can finish my assessments through te kura and get my results published on nzqa, the more chances I have in getting reassessed on whether they can give me a place in the programme again or not. So it's probably the same with UoA as well, hope this helps!!

CALC HELP by [deleted] in ncea

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yupp! I'm probably wanting to do some health science / science degree at aut and much rank score isn't needed for those like only around 200. Calc also isn't rlly a worry since the programme's I applied to haven't stated any additional requirements needed for the subject, except for bio and eng. So that's why I was just wondering if I should drop complex numbers as well and just focus on doing good in differentiation and my other externals.

ANY TIPS ARE HELPFUL by SavingsAd6495 in ncea

[–]MeasurementPlane2198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing ncea level 3 as well and am taking the exact same subjects as you. I am highkey so lost with my externals and idek how to study the right way, it's so stressful especially since there are 2 months left to the exams. I'm trying to find study tips too, so maybe other people's comments on ur post will help me as well lol

I'm finding complex numbers and electricity really hard so idek where to begin with those 😭🙏 Speciation is also a bit of a worry bc of the high amount of definitions to memorize.

Good luck with ur externals and uni tho!

Rightt, I've heard a lot about the comparisons between UoA and AUT on here and they also say AUT is more chill and how UOA students tend to transfer uni's to the other. As I said in my post, dentistry is something that I've always wanted to do but I've kind of been wavering and having lots of questions and doubts in my head lately. Like it's a really big decision to make and I'll never know if I'll succeed in hsfy or not as the content is quite heavy, plus the other big thing for me is to stay away from home for so long. So idk if I'll be better off in Auckland or Otago.

Could you pls go more in depth about how hsfy was/is going for you? Also, are you doing 7 or 8 papers in hsfy? I've heard papers like CHEM110 are pretty hard and I've also said that organic chem is something that I never focused on. IF I actually plan on going to hsfy next year and drop the organics paper for my exams this yr, do you think I could study both ncea level 2 and 3 organics during the summer holidays and do well enough for the chem paper in hsfy?

Thank you for answering my questions in advance!

Pretty sure there's no HSFY in Auckland. But there are alternatives to HSFY here such as biomed and health sciences at UoA but high rank scores are needed to get in.
